What I've seen in my experience (limited as it is) is that your enlisted job probably has a minimal impact on getting a pilot slot. Bloud is a SP and he has a slot. I came from the engine shop (jet engine mechanic) and I have a pilot slot. If you can make a positive impression on the pilots and do well in your job, you're well on your way.
