Hard landing 'severely bends' Adam Air 737
Indonesian authorities have grounded all seven Boeing 737-300s used by discounter Adam Air after one of the carrier's jets buckled during a hard landing. The Associated Press writes that "aviation authorities will examine all 737-300s owned by Adam Skyconnections Airlines — more than a third of its entire fleet — to determine whether they are air-worthy, said Bambang Istiono, an official at the Transport Ministry. ... The hard landing in stormy weather at the country's second-largest city, Surabaya, cracked the fuselage and severely bent the aircraft." Though no one was seriously injured, AP adds that "the plane came down with such force that baggage compartments burst open, sending luggage flying through the cabin." Adam Air has had several incidents since its 2003 founding, including a tragic New Year's Day crash this year that killed all 102 people on board. "More than a dozen pilots have quit over safety concerns," AP adds.Posted at 02:58 PM/ET, Feb 22, 2007 in International carriers, Safety | Permalink | Comments (10) TrackBack (0)
