This is Karen Miller for your Delta MEC Communications Committee on Thursday, December 9, with four items.

Item one. This week, ALPA met with Crew Resources personnel to discuss the calculations supporting the company decision to virtually discontinue recalls for at least the first quarter of 2005. The recall of 31 pilots is projected for 2005, assuming no early retirements after January 05 or other unplanned attrition during calendar year 05. Managements stated aim is to arrive at minimum contractual staffing levels as quickly as possible, utilizing increased caps to cover shortfalls until all Letter 46 scheduling efficiencies, including PBS bidding, are implemented later in the year.

An Advance Entitlement, with a 365-day conversion window, was posted on Wednesday night. It shows 501 advancements and 470 displacements. This includes the final 275 displacements representing the closing of the DFW base by the fourth quarter of
2005.

I can see GG (aka Montgomery Burns) twidling his fingers and muttering a classic "EXCELLENT" as his side kick Joe K (Smithers) kisses his rear-end and says, "Sir, I have your Christmas bonus"

Absolutely disgusting chain of events.

This is most tragic. I am embarressed beyond words how our MEC could not see this coming!

I'm sure they did and chose to ignore it. It will be interesting to see what is uncovered down the road about management perks, bonuses and such now that they browbeat you guys into those concessions. Didn't they award stock options already for GG and several of his upper ecehlon?

I have seen this over and over where the MEC's get to a point where they really don't represent the best interests of the entire pilot group.

And ALPA can never figure out how scabs are born.

The MEC knew this was coming, but there was little they could do. DL management made it very clear that productivity had to improve in order for DL to survive. In the long run, the productivity gains will mean far more to DL's survival then paycuts. Only the most productive survive....just ask the folks at WN.

Some of top management is getting stock options (but not Grinstein, so far), but so are most of the employees. However, I personally would rather have my management incentivized by stock options, than pure cash. At least with the options, they only see a reward if the company's performance improves and the company stays out of bankruptcy.
