CO to launch service to Tikal/Flores, Guatemala

CO will begin twice-weekly, nonstop service between IAH and Tikal/Flores, Guatemala (FRS) on June 18, 2005, using 50-seat ERJ-145 aircraft. Pending government approval, flights will depart IAH on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:40 p.m., arriving at FRS at 9:05 p.m. The return flight will depart FRS on Thursdays and Sundays at 7:45 a.m., arriving at IAH at noon.

Flores is the primary destination for travelers visiting Tikal, the largest Mayan archeological site in Central America.

Oooh, a pretty acerbic response from a dinosaur. I'm not sure what the ratio of passengers mainline carries vs. express, but at DAL/DCI one could argue who really feeds who.

Even if CAL carries the bulk of pax, you can bet Express is doing more to "feed" the bottom line then CAL.

I'm just waiting for the announcement that Continental Airlines announces new 1 stop service to London. Using their "state-of-the-art" Embraer EMB-145ZRs, Expressjet Airlines will be flying from Newark to Reykavik to London. Although the flight will take 9 hours, it will be scheduled for only 7hr 59min - legal to start...legal to finish.

I hear that Hawaii and Anchorage are in the planning stages by the Embraer engineers. They're making an extra storage bin in the galley so you will get two packages of mystery meat and stale crackers on your 6 hour flight. They also will have lavs that automatically dump themselves at FL370 so things don't get too ripe on your ocean crossing.

Isn't it funny that Express Jet pilots can't accept the fact that they fly REGIONAL JETS. Dude, it's a streched turbo-prop, the ECS sucks, there is no leg room, no padding in the seat, there is only one flight attendant, and when passengers get on them they still say "Oh my god I can't believe how small this thing is." Your a regional jet pilot, get over it.

A short-ass layover actually. In at 2105, off duty at 2120. That'd be 9:40 of "rest" for an 0700 show.

Pretty typical for a lot of overnights south of the border.

I work for 9E and this story has been circulated from the guys at XJ listening in on the de-ice freq that a 9E guy (MSP I think)asked for Type IV when the conditions were something like 10SM viz with a high overcast. Wasn't me(I swear )but when I heard the story, been using that sig ever since.

Umm, I kinda doubt that... it's more like CAL subsidizes EXJ thru buying up all the seats and paying for fuel costs over what, something like $.71/gallon? EXJ is virtually guaranteed to make a profit, sucking $$ away from mainline.

So what do you think the ratio is at the Big D? Straight from the VP of revenue management on Feb 17th of this year..."The DCI organization brings in 14% of the Delta revenue of which ASA accounts for 4% of that revenue". This was in response to a question about ASA and if they went on strike how bad it would hurt the bottom line. So Comair, ASA, CHQ, AA Eagle and SkyWest bring in 14% then that would mean mainline brings in the bulk of the revenue. (not 86% since the code shares must account for some revenue). Nice try at spin. I hope we sell you guys off in the future and make everyone happy.

Neal - don't misconstrue my comments....I'm still Mr. Positive (although I'd hardly say that makes me pro-management). You should re-read my post, I think you are just as sick of the mystery meat and legal to start/finish realities of our world. I just think it's ridiculous that we fly to more countries and places than SWA, AWA, ATA, Airtran, JetBlue, etc, and yet we are still just a "regional"

Everytime I see CAL put out a press release saying how they are "starting new service" and list us as the sole operator of their new service it reminds me that brand marketing was a subject I should have studied harder in college.

And yes, it's a shame about the Illini.

New Delhi would become the 25th city in Continental's trans-Atlantic route network, Continental said. The No. 5 U.S. carrier said the new service would be the airline's second-longest nonstop trip.

Continental said the flight will be operated using new, state-of-the-art Embraer 145-ZRs operated by ExpressJet Airlines and will make 4 stops before arriving in India.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people have no sarcasm detectors.

On a side note, being a regional airline has nothing to do with how big you are, or where you fly. It simply means you are flying under another airline's banner for B-scale wages. Sad but true.......

Guys all the feet stomping about how Xjet is 'not a regional' didn't get us 80 bucks/hour in the contract. That entire line will get you no where and make you sound kind of pathetic in my opinon. Get over it and realize it's a place to either get your time or settle for making less career earnings then you thought. XJT will fly to any city CAL tells it to that is within three and half hours. It is as simple as that.
