No, he wasn't.
 
As I remember PMD is up against a set of mountains and WJF is in the middle of the Valley.
PMD is also closer to Lancaster, whereas Willie J Fox is out to the North in the middle of nowhere.
I could see it happening, just speculating, you know where Lancaster is, and PMD is the most recognizable airport in the vicinity. The enroute charts also cluster the words from the two airports. I recall dialing in the ATIS one time, got the two mixed up and heard PMD instead of WJF, whoops.
Not that its any excuse, especially at AMF where they are so unforgiving of mistakes.
"Someone give him a dope slap," as Bob would say.
 
I know a guy that took off in a Citation with a lot of pax in back and headed for Richmond, VA...they get off the plane and the pax are like, "Uh, we're supposed to be in Richmond, IN." D'oh!
Nice. Besides, accuracy is overrated.
 
There is more than one city named Las Vegas

nothing better than a three day layover in LVS (the other las vegas, not the good one in nevada)
