Why would 121 carriers be amicable to such an agreement? You think a new VP will matter on this? I don't for the following reason: AMF has very little if anything to offer in return. Their schedule is not at all compatible with comuuters' schedule. They are unable to reciprocate on favorable terms. Think about it. A few discount carriers will probably rubber stamp it but for the most part, but don't look for open armed acceptance of this "new" offer from AMF management. Out.
With Mr. Hazlet still running things, I too don't think things will change. Unless it will save AMF money, but that is were Southwest comes into the picture.
AMF pilots have jumpseat privileges with several passenger airlines and cargo airlines. The pilots of the other airlines often do jump AMF. For example, some of the SWA pilots flying out of OAK live in Los Angeles. If they fly one of the last flights into OAK, they don't have another SWA flight to jump down to BUR, so they come over to AMF. One or two of their pilots comes over almost every night. Our schedule is the most convenient for them. Also, some of the airline pilots live in smaller towns that don't have airline service, and they jump us. I have had many SWA pilots jump with me, and they are very appreciative. AMF offers destinations and times that other airlines don't.
BTL, what is the chip on your shoulder? We have AMF pilots jump to Europe on UPS, Hawaii on Aloha, all over on airlines like SWA and Horizon. Between jumping on AMF to the many places we go, and the airlines we have jumpseat priveleges with, I have been able to jump everywhere I have wanted to go. . It is not as good as what you get flying for pax airlines, there are no buddy passes, family travel benefits, etc. If that is real important to you, then that should help guide your career choices. The new VP of Flight is simply supporting his pilots by inquiring about more jumpseat privileges. Nothing to get worked up about.
I'll put my 700+ hours in the box and perfect record on 100+ checkrides both civ and mil against your background anyday...anytime. But...perhaps you think "the box" means something entirely different. Come talk to me when you know what a "multi-path" checklist is. There's no better time to move on to something else because the career path to the majors now resembles the Ho Chi Minh trail. I suppose you've been there too, huh? At any rate...carry a little extra smash for the wife and...talk less smack if you don't know what the phuq you are talking about.
