Seems the world is spring loaded to hate the U.S. and interprets anything we do as hostile. Case in point: new pictures of Saddam in his underwear. Now it seems world opinion has got it's panties in a twist. Didn't this guy commit genocide but we're in the wrong because he's in his thong? Also was Abu Gharib all that bad? Its not like we lopped off heads or anything like that. Just wondering, I think I may be losing my persceptive on the whole thing.

Darn, I was expecting this thread to be about rap music. :) I agree though, liberals are breeding.

Hahaha :D

I could have lived my entire life without having seen Saddam in his "tighty whities".

What do you think guys?

Was it A or B or WTF?
  • Is this a plot to rile up the last of the Jihad punks and get them to hurry up and come their demise?
  • or...is it a liberal media ploy to kick sand in Bush's face, by riling up the middle easterners, screwing up the good works done so far?
  • or...is it C?

I could rap but it wouldn't be pretty.
I hear ya...American rap was best, when the "chicken taste like wood" (rapper's delight).

Crime rhyme was cool with the ICE-T, untill "cop killer" came out...and NWA and Posse was good stuff. This crap they got today...blahhhhhh! Make it go away....puh-leeeeeeeze!

And now ICE-T is the cop.

Anyway put on some Jones, JR, Willie, and Waylon. And lets crack open another FN:)

Nah, you're not losing perspective... You just don't understand the rest of the world (and nor do I). You're exactly right, to "the rest of the world" everything we do is bad. It's been this way for a good long while, and none of it is particularly surprising to me anymore. P.J. O'Rourke wrote an entertaining piece pooh-poohing the Europeans about 20 years ago, the title of which escapes me, but I think it was called "Among the EuroWeenies", from his book "Holidays in Hell". I admit that it was a seminal revelation in my mind, that the world hates us, and to hell with them anyway. ;)

Is Abu Ghraib all that bad? Nah, not to us. The problem is that it made us look even WORSE, which in the eyes of the world didn't take much. I think the reaction of the media in THIS country was completely over-the-top, but maybe (to give them the benefit of the doubt) they did it to make the world think that we thought such behavior was so atrocious that we needed to fling the perpetrators off a cliff.

Not that I necessarily believe that, but not much else makes any sense.

Not to make this overly political, but this is one reason why I'm glad Kerry isn't our president right now... He'd have made a much bigger deal of Abu Ghraib than the media already have, and he'd be trying very, very hard (unsuccessfully) to make me feel that it was a tragedy. Gotta do something to make the world happy, right? Not that it would improve our lot in the MidEast... I'm pretty much of the opinion that nothing we could ever do, short of pulling out completely, would make those people happy.

So is it better to pull out now and have the last 1600+ deaths in vain or stay and risk that number times who knows how many? Is it possible for Christians, Jews and Muslims to live in harmony? The past doesn't give much hope.

That's the best laugh I've had all month. :)

Short answer? NO. I think the history of the last two thousand years is likely to be the future of the next two thousand years... If we all don't kill each other first.

Thats too bad. Every race has something to offer. Regardless how this whole thing turns out, Veterans day is soon and all those who have died from this point back all did so because they promised to do their duty and did so with little regard for themselves but for their buddies. They will never see another sunset, or drink a cold Coke on the 4th of July, or smell fresh cut grass or hear the brillant things their offspring will say. No matter how the media spins things, a vet always gets a free beer from me.

I place my vote for choice B

The other day I was in jamica and they had a stand with rapper gear for the tourists and my god there was bling bling that said NWA and I thought NorthWest Airlines. So I bought it and when I was wearing it i got a lot if wired looks.

Cant believe no one has said it yet.

Wrong forum.

I'm not certain that the world hates us. I am certain that the US media hates us.

sort of makes you wonder, don't it?

Calvin

According to the media (where most of our info comes from) the majority of the Iraqi people disaprove of the Saddam in underwear pictures. I guess they forgot about the raping of virgins and then murdering them for the fun of it. Maybe we should cut him loose, pull out, reap our loses and let the middle east self destruct like they seem happy to do. My two cents.

I feel your pain Bra...I was in the mall the other day with my Sugar Hill Gang t-shirt on. It was pretty tight, because I have had the t-shirt since 1979 and this little girl walking with her mom points and says, "Look mommie, that man's boobies are bigger than yours!"

http://www.bus.miami.edu/~ldouglas/house/shill/rd.mp3

have you ever went over a friends house to eat
and the food just aint no good
i mean the macaroni's soggy the peas are mushed
and the chicken tastes like wood
so you try to play it off like you think you can
by sayin that youre full
and then your friend says momma he's just being polite
he aint finished uh uh that's bull
so your heart starts pumpin and you think of a lie
and you say that you already ate
and your friend says man there's plenty of food
so you pile some more on your plate
while the stinky foods steamin your mind starts to dreamin
of the moment that it's time to leave
and then you look at your plate and your chickens slowly rottin
into something that looks like cheese
oh so you say that's it i got to leave this place
i dont care what these people think
im just sittin here makin myself nauseous
with this ugly food that stinks
so you bust out the door while its still closed
still sick from the food you ate
and then you run to the store for quick relief
from a bottle of kaopectate
and then you call your friend two weeks later
to see how he has been
and he says i understand about the food
baby bubbah but we're still friends
with a hip hop the hippie to the hippie
the hip hip a hop a you dont stop the rockin
to the bang bang boogie
say up jump the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie the beat

...so tens of thousand of people in Jakarta Indonesia are protesting the U.S. and buring Bush in effigy. They are still p!ssed off over the now bunk story off flushing the Koran down the can. I guess our gift of a gajillan dollars for tsunami relief has been forgotten. This is getting old.

If you want to get an idea of just how bad the rest of the world views the US log on to Pprune.com (a UK based pilots' forum) and take a look at the threads there. In particular look under "Jet Blast", there are usually at least 2 or 3 threads every day slagging off US policies as well as commenting on how dumb we all are. I would like to see more US pilots log on there to defend the honor of the old red white and blue

I'm a Brit ex-pat myself so I try to view most US criticisms with an open mind, but most of the time I find them to be nothing more than one sided opinions. I just love it when I call back to England and hear sarcastic comments such as, "So where is the US going to start a war this week?" It frankly amazes me that so many people in the world think that everyone can be reasoned with and that allowing these lunatics to continue their ways is less harmfull than military intervention. In general it seems we are d*mned if we do and d*mned if we don't.

(edited because I didn't know that "D*amned needs to be censored!)
