Wow Allegient seems to have their act together unlike AA. Guess all that money you gave Aprey was good for something, maybe not.

Undercut? Hmm, remeber you voted for your last contract sport. You're logic no longer applies.

Does anyone think that AA, DAL would see a potential net gain for these cancellations. Possibly using the maitenance as an excuse for a short term reduction in capacity. Or do you think the costs associated with a move like this outweigh the gain? Anyone?

We have a winner. Ground the gas hog end of the operation from Tues-Thurs.

What are the odds.

No way... the bad publicity AA is getting (go look at the front page of CNN.com) has to far outhweigh any potential short term material gain.

American Airlines pisses off more people by 8 a.m. than most airlines do ALL day! HOOO RAH! ;) TC

Pipe, you need to join the local communist party, if you haven't already. They are looking for anti-freemarket types. If you can't find communist in the phone book just join the movement to elect Obama. He will set you free from the bonds of capitalism.

No lesson needed here Mr. Prog. The legacy's are using a failing business model. If WN's model ever comes to a point where they are not making profits then they must change or suffer the consequences. BTW SWA did not "undercut"...they provided a product for a cheaper price. Skybus and Independence "undercut"...therefore they are no longer here.

Okay.

I understand that airline history started for you the day you walked off the base and into a SWA new-hire class, but, believe it or not, there were airlines that were sucessful long before Herb Kelleher and Rollin King.

The "failing legacy" business model is what built the airline industry in this country. Period. Without the progress behind those companies, Southwest Airlines would not exist.

You're the flavor of the month now, and I understand how you can believe that you're at the very apex of competetive capitalism, setting the standard for everyone else, and in a different class of company than Skybus or Independence.

But it wasn't always so.

Your company owes its very existence to the fact that it was the first to seriously undercut the existing legacies in terms of pricing and service(the name Braniff ring a bell?). You thrived by offering a lesser product at a cheaper price, in no way different from the two airlines you mentioned. You didn't fly to "underserved destinations" that the larger carriers abandoned, but flew to cities that were well served by other airlines for a price that they could not match given the level of service provided. It didn't hurt that your company paid a wage that was considered an insult by most legacy pilots, and without the work rules or benefits enjoyed by other pilot groups. You could make a case that the race to the bottom, for pilots, got its launch on an Apple DC-9 and a yellow-orange 737.

It wasn't markedly different than Skybus in that respect, or Walmart, for that matter, in terms of its marketing strategy.

WN didn't adapt to the market, the market adapted to WN. And not always for the better.

Good lord Prog2, you really do need to go to venezuela or china w/ that. Get rid of BenHuntn's Obama sling and he's got you pegged. Some of you really want communism here. Bottom line- WN pilots do it right- They fly their arse off get paid well for it- and go home. They work harder and (gasp!) are happier than all the skyNazi's combined. Now i know it's a two-way street and management has broken promise after promise, but i've seen many of the legacy attitudes and you've gotten paycuts you didnt deserve- but you certainly didn't earn any raises. You forgot to compete for business and refused to do anything not titled "your job" and forgot about the customer... that customer you deserved to lose.
And the other poster is absolutely right. WN has been making your 777 wages for a VERY LONG TIME NOW. Who's undercutting who? Maybe if you guys would stop arguing for your laziness and paycheck at the same time- you could get your raises back a little easier-- But really, as much as you complain- would southwest's contract make you happy? Would anything make you happy? Plenty of you were very pissed before 9/11. What motivation would management have to give you raises when they have a history of knowing you won't be happy w/ doubling your pay back to what it was?

btw- Obama for President.

Hey kool-aid,

Im no AandP, and you definitely sound like you aren't either- flying around with cracked planes seems much different than just wiring bundles.

Your airline's numerous FAA "lobbying tactics" brought about this mess, and the rest of us are getting f-ed due to the expected knee-jerk reaction to make a point. First Jetblue's incompetence then this.

It's the typical example of the bad kid in kindergarten doing something bad during recess, so then recess gets cancelled for all.

The pizza money you're saving on not giving it to MDW tower should go towards all the people that have had their flights cancelled the last 3 weeks.

Tube, you are correct, you are not an A&P and do not come across overly educated, but you do like to spread lies. How many jets were really cracked?

Now, aa told the FAA that the md-80s were in compliance. The FAA looked at 19 jets and 15 were not. The additional groundings and loss of revenue are all on aa and its inability to do the job correctly.

But I must thank aa for being inept and taking the target off our back. The horrible press that aa received today from windscreens, landing gear, and wiring harnesses (some of it from your own captains, and all on national TV) makes the SWA issue old (and boring) news.

Go ahead and blame SWA. We just happened to be in Oberstars sights when he went after the FAA. It could have easily been aa, DAL, UAL, Alaska to name a few.

I ask you, how come SWA can manage 500+ 737s better than aa can manage 300 MD-80s?

It is ALWAYS someones fault other than aa. Grow up. Jetblue, TWA, and now SWA. LMAO. No wonder aa will never right itself.

As far as pizza money, we flew many pax tonight who were initially flying on aa (but could not get to their destination because aa was busy cancelling 1000+ flights). From their comments, I believe we won over many new customers tonight. Their comments were...well...enlightening. Thanks!!!
