AF is by far the worst renewal out there. Just a complete regurgitation of regs and AIMs. Gliem is the better one but way more expensive. I make copies of the data as I go trough it and then take the test. It does time out after 10 minutes and don't let it go over a couple of weeks as it will make you start all over again. You will have to call customer service to get it fixed. I can say the price is right, but that is a bout it. You get what you pay for.

Has anyone tried the Jepp renewal? I'd like to try it and was wondering how it compared to Gleim and AF. I've got the free for life gig from AF as well, but it really is basic. I haven't instructed in 7 years or so and I was hoping to actually learn something this time. In particular, the new rules mandated by the TSA... I literally know that there are some new rules and the TSA made them, that's about it.

Hey guys,

Every time I walk away from my computer, it stops recording my "study" time. How does it do this? Any ideas on how to make it think you are actually there?

Thanks for the help.

I just completed my 2nd renewal through American Flyers. I highly recommend AF and have no complaints. I pad a one time fee of $100 and renewals are free for life. I believe the onetime fee is now up to $150 but not sure. Each section requires a set amount of "Study Time" before the test link becomes available. You can't just log in and sit idle. I always minimize it and refresh it every 10 minutes or so while I'm doing other stuff online. If you don't know the answer to a question you are allowed to go back into the study area while taking the test. It's a no brainer and a simple renewal process for those who don't care to relearn everything all over and just want to keep their CFI ticket current.

I let my CFI Lapse, but bought the AF course 3 years ago. Can I Still renew it??
And to keep the time running just bump the mouse every 10 minutes, or dive deep in the bowels of the world of porn. That will waste enough time.

It has been pointed out in previous threads, but the Gleim renewal has no minimum study times. You can literally get through all 16 units in about 3 hours. I found the info to be quite good, and the site allows you to look up all the answers during the tests.

Not lifetime renewals, but for $100 every two years, and no required minimum study times, I was happy with Gleim.

Nope. You'll need a reinstatement checkride with a DE or if you're lucky enough to be friendly with the right Fed he can do it by paper alone.

how can you guys say the AF stinks, its the same info as everyother program. Are you guys that lazy? I've only used the AF system once as I usually have a local FED renew mine however several years ago he wasn't available and I was living out of state so I went with AF. Like I said 100 and its good for life.

Are you the same guys that pay ALL Atps 350 bucks to study ATP questions on a computer that you could read from a 35 dollar book? I'm by far not cheap, I don't mind spending extra where its called for but there is a definate diff between cheap and stupid spending.

Hey thanks for the info guys...I chose Gleim. I just finished the first 3 lessons in about an hour. It's great....no minimum time required to study. I just breezed right through it. From what I hear American Flyers requires you to spend hours and hours online. $99 bucks is worth getting it done and out of the way quick and easy.

Ah, I figure that even the FAA knows B.S. when they step in B.S. If they had a problem with it, they'd fix it, right?
