While we are on the subject of AWA ......... the Oct 27th class is reported to have about 20-something students. Four of those will go to the 757, two to the 737, and the remainder to the 319/320.

Rumors abound about the possible acquisition of more B757's. There hasn't been any official word as of yet. Stay tuned.....

seniority

Last I heard, there are only about 10 people left in the pool who interviewed early in this year, so over half of the class will be people who recently interviewed. How will they determine seniority in this case?

Will the young guy who interviewed 9 months ago be at the bottom?

I don't know how seniority is determined for those in the pool -- I believe that it's based on your interview date. As far as seniority in class..... it's based on age -- the older you are, the more senior you are -- regardless of interview date (I'm a prime example).

Look on the bright side (hard for us "glass-half-empty" type guys), at least there will be guys junior to you very soon based on the projected hiring.

So how does it work really, will they call you everytime there is a class or can you request a "do not call until...."

as long as there is a pool...you can defer a class date and they will call for the next class date.......you can defer until they say you cannot anymore.....yes they are cool with it at AWA.

Last November I had a class date- upon explaining that I was interested but that this was a poor time for me they allowed me to defer for a six month period which I thought was very nice. I must admit that the interview process at AWA is probably one of the better experiences out there.

For what its worth....

I spoke with an Asst. Chief Pilot (AWA) today whom said that AWA is going to hire 30 next month. Good news !!! They really like guys/gals from the local area. I think the reason is that they may be able to fill classes on short notice.

Hi!

I would like to know what the official minimums are for AWA, if they have any. If there are no official mins, what are they guys getting hired look like, experience wise?

I have been to their website a number of times lately, and it says they aren't hiring pilots. There is no additional information available.

I can't remeber what the "official" minimums are, but based on the quals of the folks that are being hired, you would need to have around 6000 total, with a couple thousand PIC (turbine in many cases) with some jet time. Of course there are many variances on these numbers. Some folks have little or no PIC, some have little or no jet, some have twice these hours. This just seems to be the "average" pilot that is getting hired at AWA right now.

Is the Sim ride still the first part of the interview process? I think they call it the Reedy Weave or something like that. I interviewed back in 2000 and they were doing it then.

It's called the "Van Revie Weave" and yes they still do it first thing in the interview.

Minimums are just as it's name implies, the minimum required for consideration, or a guide post if you will. The "REAL MINIMUM" or competitive times are what gets interviews in this market. One of the most common statements I hear is " I don't have this kind of time (PIC) so I won't apply. My response to this is let the companys tell you that you are not qualified, don't do it for them. All it costs you is a stamp or a LD phone call (fax) to apply and it's worth it!!!

I just looked on their website, it says that there are no pilot positions available. Does anyone know if they are accepting resumes?

They are accepting resumes, but they are not giving out apps. I think there is probably plenty of stacks of apps. at the HR dept. as-is. If I hear any different, I'll post.
By the way, a letter of rec. by an AWA pilot who you've flown with is pretty important. I didn't have one, and it took six years of bugging them to get an interview!

You can't go by the website. I talked to HR friday and they said they are collecting resumes and the next round of applications will be sent out in January. If a resume has a letter of rec. from an AWA pilot, they are guaranteed an app.

America West Interview?

Anyone heard of more interview dates other than October 27th? I had a AWA interview set up in September but had to CNX a few days before due to obligations to my present employer. Does anybody know if HP will call me again to reschedule for another interview date or did I bloew it? I've called HR at AWA and written a letter explaining my situation, but I have heard nothing. I really want to join AWA....does anyone have any input to my situation?

If you haven't physically talked to anyone, I would keep calling until you actually talk to someone and get an answer. Your persistence will pay off -- not to mention ease your mind.

Based on other peoples' experiences, the best time to get in touch with the fine folks in Recuritment & Selection is Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. They schedule most interviews on Tuesadays and Thursdays and aren't in the office much on those days.

Thanks for the great advice! Persistence did pay off....I called this morning (Monday) and received a phone call back from HR this afternoon. I have rescheduled my interview for later this month.

I'm looking forward to this opportunity. Anyone with recent AWA interview info please share your experience!!!

Letters of Rec A Must

Try to get a letter of Rec from an AWA pilot. Those are getting the most consideration.
