Anyone heard what is going to happen if America West wins the bis for ATA. What do they what. I have been hired at AW and just trying to get as much info as possible. Like everyone else I don't want to go to AW and a year later get furloughed.
Thank for any insight
and also what could one expect to make first year on adverage.

Your first question is anyones guess. Ask ten people you'll probably get ten different opinions.

Second question:

First year pay is $38/hr with a 77 hr/mo guarantee. In training, which last around three months, give or take a couple weeks, you make $38/hr at average line holder hrs. Been running around 83 hrs. I've been told scheduling does their best to keep reserve guys under the 77 hrs to avoid the extra pay. Not sure how easy it is to pick up open time. Reserve on the Bus has been running around 5-6 months, but not sure if that will stick with the new LAS crew base opening early next year. I hear you can expect to be on reserve most if not all of your first year if you get a Boeing.

So if my 4th grade math is correct, you could figure bare bones minimum to be around 36K your first year. I've heard people mentioning making in the low $40's their first year and that seems to be about right.

Sorry for the long winded answer to an easy question.

Tack, when was your interview date? I was interviewed and "hired" on Nov. 4 and was told to expect a class sometime after the first of the year.

Good luck; hope to see you in PHX soon!

Tack, I am not a big grammar Nazi, but why do you never use questions marks in your posts. Do you not like them. I think it makes it harder to read. Do you. Thanks for answering my questions.:D

I failed spelling/and english in school. So I guess what I am saying is I suck at spelling and writing.
And yes I don't like questions marks, I don't Know why I just don't.

curious

lets say you have a Cactus class date of "Jan 15" (hypothetical) and on Jan 30, the ATA/Cactus deal is legally finalized and all that horsesh1t.

Re: AA/TWA, can one conclude that the guy in Cactus class will have a seniority number above the ATA guys?

Will they be "stapled" to the bottom? Or something like Morris/SWA (not sure how that was done)

thanks

At this point one can't conclude anything especially since no merger/acquisition deal is imminent. Ask again after Dec 16. Having said that, if I had to guess, the bottom AWA guy would end up senior to many of the ATA guys. I wouldn't expect (nor do I wish) for all ATA guys to be stapled but certainly some or many shall be. There'll also be fences and equipment/seat locks put in to prevent the company from incurring hundred of training events.

If AWA's bid is accepted (still a big if) the big question for someone awaiting class at cactus (you and me both) is when the deal was officially consumated. If the judge approves the deal on december 16th, that would probably be the date used for any seniority integration. Either way, we would be at the bottom.

A friend, who interviewed a month before me, started class this week. I could see a situation where there is possibley hundreds of guys between us on the list.

how is that for timing!

Or the combined carriers could wind up growing into a powerhouse. I wouldn't look only at the negatives. Fifteen days and counting. I'll be in IND on the 16th, maybe I'll attend...

Or the combined carriers could land up in bankruptcy court this time next year, which would be my guess if Parker and the boys are stupid enough to persue this...... PHXFLYR

In the AA/TWA integration the date used was the closing date of the sale, a couple of months after they won at auction. Incidentally, an AA newhire class was starting like the same day and APA managed to get them seniority numbers ahead of over half the TWA guys, including captains.

Shag,
I'm not a big grammar guy either, but you asked Tack 3 questions and not one "?" in your post.

Seth,

Again, good optimism, but I can't think of a merger in recent history that equaled the sum of its parts, let alone grew into a powerhouse. While the AWA deal looks like a solid lifeboat, I think you're all better off keepig ATA intact in some way shape or form so it can grow back as it regains profitability.

If TWA survived at only half the size it was when AMR bought us, there would be 800 more ex TWA pilots still flying.

Not exactly......
If memory serves me correctly, Apr 10, 2001, was the integration date. The last AA new hire class prior to the integration date started on Apr 9. Sometimes one day does make a difference.........

Ummm, excuse me, TWA Dude, are you sure you came from TWA? I would hope you would never want anything like the integeration we ended up with at TWA. I can't even believe you mentioned the word stapled let alone assume many would be. Please try to remember where you came from. If this really happens, please fight for some fairness as you did a few years ago. Thanks.

Ummm, excuse me rudderdog, but if you go through other threads you will see that TWA Dude has been the biggest proponent of a DOH situation, even if it screws him in the end.

Careful about attacking the guy. I doubt TWA Dude forgets where he came from.

Ummm, oops. I occasionally have a weak moment. Sorry, but I just looked at his last one or two posts. Wasn't trying to attack, I was just a little shocked at the implication of what he said. If it protects AWA, he wont get screwed in the end with a real integeration.
