I'm new to this board and been looking around (on this board) and been reading alot of bad things about Delta Connection Academy. Here's my situation, I'm 20 yrs old, am just about to complete my Private Pilot License, I have 90 hrs (55 dual, 30 solo, 5 IFR/dual) on a Cessna 172-R. I currently go to the Brampton Flying Club (up here in Ontario, Canada). The way I'm going about it now, I won't have my Commercial License for many years...Thus I want to enroll in a program down south. I have looked at many schools and have decided on DCA. I'm going down to visit their location in Sanford next month. All I want is a program that'll offer a more rigorous program, w/ housing provided, in a location where I don't get cancelled every other day because of unsuitable weather. My ultimate goal is to be an airline pilot, plain and simple. Money is not a problem, but I don't want to be ripped off. I'm not looking to be placed immeadiatly on some airline by DCA, but obviously that would be nice. As far as endorsements go I need my, multi-engine, night & IFR, and ultimatley my commercial license. I would also like to get my acrobatic and seaplane ratings, but they definetly are not a priority. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

If money isn't a problem, DCA is the place for you, or you could try AriBen or ATPS. Orrrrrrrrrrrrr if money isn't a problem, just ramp up your training where you are now. Shouldn't take you long if money is not a problem.

DCA cannot guarantee you a real job anywhere.

Kobe 238, go to Florida; most everyone goes their to get their licenses
and there are lots of instructing jobs. I attented Com Air aviation in Sanford and got all my licenses in less than a year and instructed for about a year and then landed a good job flying cargo.

Do you want to work in Canada or the US?

I want to live and work out of the US. I lived in Chicago for 5 yrs and Clevland for 5 yrs, been in Canada for 10yrs. Definatley want to live somewhere in the southern part of the US. Maybe somewhere in Europe, but then I've never been to Europe so as of right now, I definetley want to work in the US.

In the US you will need Private Single, Instrument Airplane, Commercial Single, Commercial Multi...and then your instructor certificates if you go that route.

The problem as to where I am right now is that, the weather isn't really the best for flying (Mississauga, Ontario) and I get cancelled alot and secondly there's no pressure on me to get it done in the program I'm at now, it's really laid back, as am I. I think an academy where I fly and go to school 24/7 would be the best thing to push me to get this done.

I need my Instructor certificate? I don't want to be an instructor.

I'll also have to apply for citizenship, as I was born in Canada (moved Clevland when I was 9 months old), unfortuantly I don't have a dual even, though I have lived in the US half my life (10 yrs) and my two sisters have dual, as they were born in Chicago. So I shouldn't have to much a problem.

Guys, he said $$mOnEy$$ is not an Isth'U (issue for those of you in rio linda)

So he does not need to be an instructor! :D:D :bomb::smash:

Oh right. Well, to get hired with an airline, you'll typically need between 600-1000 hours, with 100-200 being in multi engine airplanes. If you can afford to buy all that time, more power to you...

who the hell does?

gkrangers, do you think DCA is a safe bet to sign on with? Thanks.
Do whatever you want. Its your money and your life/career.

If money was no option for me, I'd move to a flying friendly climate, buy a Cessna 172, and get all my single engine certificates and ratings and then sell it. Then buy a light twin and get my multi engine certificates and ratings, and fly all over the country, building time and enjoying life.

Quantify this.

What I meant was that I can afford to go to any school, but I don't want to go to one that over charges you, when I could be going to one much cheaper, and thus saving money. I have read a few posts in which people say that the quoted prices by DCA are nowhere near what they actually are (much higher).

The fact that you are not a US citizen could be a big problem now days what with the TSA. Your situation could result in a delay of many months before training can begin. Be sure to check this part out.

When I was shopping around for flight schools last year, I looked into DCA and figured the total cost to be around $100,000 or very close. ATP is just about half of that, and since you have your Private already, you wouldn't have to endure the sh*thole of a program they have for their private students in Jacksonville, FL and instead you could jump directly into their fast track program which they say takes about 90 days - AND you have a variety of locations from which to choose. I personally went through my local FBO to get all my ratings and spent close to $50G. It took about 1 year to go from 0 hrs to CFI. And I'm proud of the quality training I have received.

Check us out at wncaviation.com. We're in the mountains of NC.

Also look at places in Arizona. It's almost perfect weather for flying all year round and you don't have to deal with hurricanes!

Don't take offense to my opinion please, but Delta Connection Academy is a rip-off! Ratings are ratings and you will be able to pay much less for them at places other than DCA. Take care and good luck!
