Voting out Local 747 this spring was the greatest thing the Great Lakes pilot has done in the last decade. Whether or not 747 could acutally accomplish anything, the corruption and ineptitude had become a massive impediment to pilot unity. There was a crisis of confidence among the pilot group, and any effort was discounted at the outset because it bore the brand of a suspect organization. Only after Lakes decertified them did the trusteeship, and indictments occur. Vindication.

Guess you missed the removal of the heads of 747 and federal investigations of those individuals. Meaningful changes have been made, it just doesn't happen overnight. Try to get ALPA do what Bourne has done in his short tenure.

ALPA is by no means the end all beat all. BUT having been through this same deal at ATA, There is no comparison between the thuggish and corrupt IBT and the overly political and stuck up ALPA. ALPA is by far the lesser of two evils. They are really the only viable option for a Co. the size of ATI. Not enough bodies on the property to go independent and you would be looney toons to decertify with Cappy and ABX both unionized and very active. However it turns out, the union is only as good as those willing to serve at the local level. Good luck to you all!!

Having been through all forms of unions representation. For a small group of pilots APLA is the best bang for the buck. The programs they have are unmatched, {Health care} Life insurance} and Legal. Not that they can solve all your problems, at least your getting something while you wait for a new contract.

You may want to keep a serious eye on the upcoming Presidents election if you are a non-legacy carrier. I believe there is a plan to recover funds to get back in the black at ALPA. Believe they plan on making the non legacy carriers pay extra outside of union dues for other services. Prater is one and I think one other that has shown an interest in the election.

As far as insurance and medical. I'm an Atlas guys and I've found that they have some via Harvey Watt during our staging at local 1224 (Life, loss of license, med consultation). Used their medical consultation dept. not long ago and got my life and loss of license moved over also when we decertified ALPA. Feds wanted the standard yank the medical for 6 months and the medical consultation team over there got me back the medical in just over a week. I should have worked with them earlier than I did and saved myself some trouble.

Funny how your "experience" with Alpa aeromedical mirrors exactly what some of my co-workers who were forced to join USAPA "under duress" experienced using Harvey Watt.

I guess I didn't do a very good job explaining. It was the Harvey Watt consultation dept that got my medical back. Probably would not have happened if I worked with them first. Most folks physicians I come to find out generally don't know what key words the FAA wants to hear in reports.

As far as the life and loss of license they took up where we left ALPA. If you did it in a 90 day window, they covered you without extra exams.
