Whether you are working at a ALPA organized airline or possibly going to one soon, ALPA elections are around the corner in October.

You may be happy with the current Pres. D. Woerth or not.

If not, then you probably should start talking to your LEC officer on who you want so that they will remember it when they cast your collective votes. Your LEC officer gets to vote your memberships collective votes for whom they want. You don't get to vote as an individual. So start making noise on who your LEC officer should vote for ALPA President and remind him that he is elected into his position by your councils membership.

I would like to suggest this candidate - - Capt. Dan Brannan .

He has a web site up at:

http://www.danbrannan.com/

Any others out there?

Since only 5% of the membership attend LEC meetings and 2/3 of those attendees are committee members and officers, I highly doubt there will be much involvement....

I wish there was..... a lack of truth to the realism...

I recognized Dan's name from the DHL "Quantum Leap" Contract in the mid to late 90s. He appears to be a man who could possibly change the course of ALPA for the better.

While many may not understand this, wether ALPA,APA,SWAPA, or any other independent union, we are joined together. Especially now during this shift in history, our individual actions will affect us respectively.

You ALPA guys have really brought the industry down. You better shape up or we will all be out of work. Its bad enough you have lowered wages and given up the pensions. Terrible.

Lack of involvement is a huge problem. But it also stems from the fact that ALPA National does absolutely ZERO to get the rank-and-file involved and active. Leadership starts at the top.

We are putting together a campaign to try to change things...it will be a while before you will start to hear things. It will be a campaign of fresh ideas and bold initiatives which we can use to unify and rally the 66,000 members of this organization we call ALPA. Our union dues are going to bring us something other than a nice, shiny magazine or $100,000/year secretaries and clerks. Can't really say much more than that, because we are still in the preparation phase, but as the October election for ALPA president approaches, you will hear more...please be patient and try to talk up the subject of this election.

DID YOU KNOW: The administrative and professional staff of ALPA (secretaries !) get reimbursed for their FICA taxes ? How does it make you feel, now that you know that your ALPA dues are going to pay someone else's income tax. ?

Have a nice day.

You are kidding right? I am feeling ill.

I wish I was kidding...keep an eye on this message board regarding the upcoming election...we are just now uncovering all the dirt. It's worse than we thought. Start talking up the election and how your union dues are being wasted. We will try to inform and educate as the election date gets closer. make sure you have the email address and phone number of your local status rep. ALPA is a democracy whose members are not being served by its leaders. You CAN make a difference.

Fly safe.

Maybe ALPA National can pay pilots to attend there own LEC meetings. (where would they get the money??) Or they could have a keg-er dude!!!

How does the Pope in Italy (vatican) get Catholics to attend church in Anytown, USA...

Change is the easiest campaign slogan to use. heck my kid used it for his High School Class Prez campaign. "Change" is so high school because it means anything to to anyone.

100K Secs... let's think for a minute. She got hired 10-15 years ago. Should she get a payscale? Like you? I guess ALPA could fire her, but that wouldn't be very union-like would it... plus how much does it cost to live in Northern VA?

ALPAreform... It is obvious you want to go from your current condition to a better one. However, I submit that your current expectation of ALPA are not aligned... and where you think you ought to be might not be realistic too. But really your issue will be the HOW. What are you going to do to get where you want to go....

When you actually delve into the issue you will find the HOW is not so easy and maybe ALPA isn't so irresponsible after all....

There are things you can control... and the easiest ones are in the mirror.... that is a great place to start.... only then can you effect change on an organizational level....

"Talking" to your LEC rep won't get much done. If you are really serious about change, then go to your next LEC meeting armed with a resolution. Make sure all the other LEC's also have the same resolution on the agenda for their LEC meeting.

After that, assuming the resolutions pass, it will be discussed at the MEC level and the MEC will have to address it.

If your LEC is the only one that passes the resolution....don't expect much at the MEC level.

Let us know how it goes.

You actually have to attend an LEC meeting. See guys are too apathetic to do so.... Sure they love to complain, that takes minimal effort and it can be done any time anywhere.....

Also, your MEC or LEC should have a policy manual that will guide you on drafting Rez O. Lewshuns...... :D

Ask you LEC officer for help too....

Who knows the union you participate in may be your own!

I'd be careful about him as a choice, too. Word's out that he's having major issues in his own local MEC.

Rez-
I have to chuckle to myself. I saw the title of this thread and I thought
---I bet when I open this Rez will be one of the first 4 posts playing ALPA cheerleader, calling people lazy apathetic sheep.---
Well you beat my estimate by 1 post. You are very predictable. What post at ALPA do you hold which gives you so much insite (as well as making you their puppy dog/cheerleader.

It's too late for Alpa, they have failed to take a stand too many times in the the recent past. Unfortunately for us all, at this point they are reduced to a toothless lapdog trying to protect their own interests and salaries rather then the constituents they represent.

He seems like a nice enough guy, but I don't see what he is actually offering.
To me it looks like a lot of "consultant speak", comprhensive overhaul, core strengths, top to bottom review etc.

Further, although I read his plan, I do not have any idea, how he actually will "regain ALPA's power, strength" , but it is a nice slogan!

Glad I was able to meet and exceed (by one) expectations...

If I am predictable it is only because so are the ALPA cynics and whiners. See, it is alot easier to reflect the agnst of the mindless mob then address the issues head on....

It looks like you have given up, quitter. You have resigned yourself to being a flag in the wind.

ALPA is not perfect, just like my family, church, gov't and country is not. But I refuse to give up on the Agenda of the Air Line Pilots. Heck we can change ALPA's name and call it something else.... Change the organization structure... what ever needs to be done..let's do it....

But I am not going to quit and hand the reigns of my career and my profession to those who have no concern for it. While that is your contentment, it shall not be mine.
