The ALPA BOD just voted to raise our dues by now making 401k contributions subject to ALPA dues....Is that what the majority wanted? Does ALPA speak for you?

Hell no Joe..

I especially like this crap. We're taxing your retirement, but... YAY.. We've been working "Smarter" and can now reduce your percentage by .005

Starting January 1, 2014, the dues rate for active members will be 1.90 percent—a reduction of .05 percent. This was made possible due to the initiatives the Association has implemented to work smarter, save money, and be more fiscally responsible with our dues income. The change reduces the dues rate that has been in place since 1994, and establishes a dues rate that will be the lowest rate ALPA pilots have paid since 1985.

I think Jerry Atkin should increase SKYW pay by .05 % on the same day just to rub it in.

Ok, let's not change your subject. There is spin in the email. So tell us what the real truth is so that we can all bitch with you.

The email said dues were going down....Well they are for the mainline folks, and you are going to subsidize their dues reduction....

Pilots are total pansies. Nobody is going to do jack about it.

Watch.

Yes, that email was telling us they believe we are REALLY stupid. Time to start organizing a new way in a real way.

Actually, the ALPA BOD voted to cut the dues rate to 1.9%. Tell the full story, Joey. The fact of the matter is, most ALPA pilots will see a dues reduction from this change.

Why will some ALPA pilots end up paying a bit more than they do right now? Because up until now, some pilots (myself included) did not pay dues on their voluntary 401k contributions, while other pilots did. Pilots that had only a 401k plan and no A-Fund or B-Fund pension were exempt from paying dues on their contributions. The result was that many pilots were paying effective dues rates lower than the stated 1.95%, while most members were paying the 1.95% rate. Now, as a proponent of the so-called "fair tax," I'm surprised you could stand behind such a system, Joey. Shouldn't everyone pay the same effective rate? Isn't that "fair?"

Yes. The vote was nearly 80%, in fact. Not exactly a close vote.

The email they sent out was an insult.

Meanwhile, the ALPA President's total compensation package last year was $540,408.00....

http://deltapilotsassociation.squar...lpa-president-receives-huge-pay-increase.html

Quoting the DPA's web site as a source for information? Now that's just funny.

The ALPA president is paid 100 hours per month at the pay rate of the aircraft he can hold at Delta, which is a 767-400. He receives a 26% override to account for the fact that he's working nearly 365 days a year, while the average pilot is working far less. That's a total compensation package of $335,654, a far cry from the DPA's absurd claims. There are more than a few Delta pilots making more money than the ALPA president, while working far less.

Furthermore, the BOD at this meeting voted to cut the president's pay down to 95 hours effective January 2015. And if that's not enough for you, the BOD also voted to screw him over even more by refusing to allow him the profit sharing payments that other Delta pilots receive. Doesn't exactly sound like a great deal to me.

The FairTax doesn't have everyone paying the same effective tax rate.

By the way, not every pilot group with a 401k and a B fund were paying dues on their 401k contributions. I know because the contract I work under which ALPA negotiated has a section in it called Defined Contribution Plan.

That's because your DC plan has the money going into the same pot as your 401k plan. You don't have two plans, just two names for the same plan in your CBA.

Every time someone screams about the pay of the ALPA president, I just don't get it.

I want to publicly say that position SHOULD pay 500k/yr.

I may drink the SkyWest Kool-Aid, but this guy is swimming in the ALPA Kool-Aid

So along with the erosion of work rules, quality if life, lack of a pension, and inability to hammer down a new contract we get to pay a few more bucks out of our limited retirement funds. Nice job boys. Spin it off as a reduction and case closed. No bueno ALPA. I wish there was a better alternative.

There is. Just tell them you only want to pay the agency rate. That can cut your dues at least 25-30% or more depending on what that rate is.

You left out the part about losing your right to vote when you do that. Sort of a significant component.

Nobody asked for my vote on this matter. Or on the fact that the ALPA president got a 21% raise, while the average line pilot takes pay cuts. Yeah, my vote REALLY matters. Time for a Regional Union, that doesn't represent both sides of the fence.
