Does a LOR still have to be from a pilot you have flown with in a 121 enviroment? Also more importantly, does it have to be submitted in person to the CP from the guy recommending you, or can he snail mail it or send it via company mail? Thanks for any advice.

Its being said that they arent putting as much importance on it as they used to, but this is not confirmed... just rumor. :)

but lets face it:

1) any LOR will have more weight if the person has flown with you before.

2) any LOR is better than no LOR, even if the guy hasnt flown with you before.

so my advice is, get LORs.

Anyone know what the requirements are for AQ? After this winter in the Northeast I can think of far worse fates than sitting reserve out on the beach!

If I only had the time....

to document what I did to try and get an interview there....First off, the party line was that NO ONE was gonna get an interview without a recomendation from a current AQ pilot. That rec was to be well considered and not "...with some one you met in the parking lot or jumpseating..." It was only acceptable if you actually flew with that individual. A process which, I basically agree with, BUT the greatest personality/pilot didn't have a snowballs chance to get on, unless Peter Clark actually liked you. AQ has had problems in the past with people misrepresenting their intentions about why they wanted to fly there, claiming to wanna retire there, only to leave at the next round of major hiring. I know for a fact that this policy has changed somewhat. People are getting recomended and hired without the past "you must have flown with this person" rec. It has affected me a great deal because now that I have the "juice," I have since gone to another airline thinking that AQ was an unobtainable goal, for the above stated reason. I am at an airline with a training contract that is expensive and NOT pro rated for its duration. I guess its a good problem to have these days, wandering about the 2 different pilots jobs, but I really wanted to work at AQ. It is a great operation and worthy of your time to get employed there. It appears that my timing has worked against me. Good luck! BTW I did go to AQ's office for an ambush visit to Peter Clark, but that's another story......

As far as I know, you still have to have an LOR to even get looked at here. I think it's the same as anywhere these days..
