First I'd like to say that this board is a great place for a young
guy (almost 18!) like myself to have plan for the future. Thanks
everyone.
My question is during the flight physical how do they screen for
allergies? I have mild to moderate seasonal allergies and just take Allegra and Nasalcort for on as needed bases. I had taken
allergy shots up until about 1 year ago when I quit because I didn't have enought time with hockey and school and all. Do they
request all your doctor records or what? I know allergies can be
a DQ. What if I don't tell them about it?
Is it possible to take the physical before signing on the dotted line? If I where to start back up with my allergy shots I'm sure that in less than 3 years time my allergist would say I'm cured.
Would that be good enough for the AF?

Your response when they ask you if you are allergic to anything: NO

Are you on any meds?: NO

After you get your wings, go see the flt surgeon and they'll fix you up all legal-like.

If they find out that you have had allergies they will send you out to get tested. I can't remember the exact name of the test (Pulminary Function Test maybe?), but anyway. They make you inhale meds that induce an allergic reaction while you have to exhale as hard and long as you can into a tube as wide as your mouth.
IT SUCKS!
If you pass you might get in.
From what I understand the Air Force does not allow any allergies within a certain amount of years or before a certain age.

I am not in yet so hopefully some others that are can elaborate on this.

Good luck,
JS

Get your physical before March or after May. Do not get it during allergy season. If you do get it during allergy season.
YOU HAVE A LITTLE COLD. understand?
AFTER YOU ARE IN, see the flight surgeon, like the other guy said.
Good Luck,

Get some Nasalcrom, if your worried about getting Rx during that time period. It is over the counter now and works like your prescription stuff.

While I advocate telling the truth all of the time, I would recommend you simply just don't offer anything about your supposed allergies.

NOTE: If you suffer from asthma, you're HONOR BOUND to disclose it--that is far too serious to hide.

However, with respect to mild alergies, let's look at it--if you get stung by a bee, does the site swell and itch? That is an alergic reaction to the sting. In that case, just about everyone has an alergy of some sort or another.

In your case, nasal sterioids (such as Flonase, etc) do not disqualify you from service. In fact, the AF has decreed that local flight surgeons can make a waiver for this mild alergic reaction. Thus, this type of medicine is not a big deal.

Nevertheless, I simply would not offer it up during the flight physical part.
