One of my friends just called be from the Witchata Airport where he is flying United, but an Allegiant MD-80 pulled up to the gate instead. He is taking it to Denver to connect on another flight to PHL. Why is United using Allegiant? Is it because the labor is so cheap? I looked on airlinepilotpay.com, and it said a 10 year captain made $100 an hr. It was also listed under the charter section. What gives?

Maybe United's scheduled aircraft is broken and the Allegiant aircraft is being wetleased for the day to cover for it? These sub-charters are pretty common and is no indication of a long-term relationship between the carriers.

Its been a while, so the arrangement may have changed. The Allegiant DC9 at the jetway goes to Vegas, while an RJ next to it goes to DEN. They both board throught the same gate.

Simma Down Nah. . . . . . Your buddy calls you because he sees an Allegiant jet parked at the gate, and the first thing you do is get on airlinepilotpay.com?

What's the matter, skipped your Ritalin?

Allegiant flies from Wichita to Las Vegas 5 days a week I believe.

Bye Bye----General Lee

HAHA, well I have never heard of it before, so I thought the best place to get a list of airlines was on airlinepilotpay. THATS IT!

airlinenut.com has better airline lists. They won't give you pilot pay but will lead you to each airlines web sites. I found some strange airlines I didn't even know existed.

Common?????????????? Dude it's VERY apparent YOU KNOW nothing about sked airlines. Wetleased for UAL. LOL.

It's apparent too that the guy asking the original question has no idea how airports work.

"My friend saw an Allegiant MD80 park at a United gate!! WOW! Must be a code share!!! It must be because the labor is so cheap!! I better tell the whole aviation community about this!!"

Excuse me, what??

That sure was an embarrassing comment he made...Wet leased......LOL.

I don't think UAL's contract has been gutted this far.........at least not yet anyway.

......at least not yet anyway.

I hope we don't get to this point, if it does happen then I am sure the UAL MEC will work on improving the pay and work rules of the wet least airline.

Yeah Right!

How is this for fans of a little blood and gore:

Highlights from the January bid package for ORD A320 F/Os

-- 168 primary lines of flying
-- 117 of the 168 are built to between 90 and 95 hours block time (70%)
-- all but 10 of the 168 pay 90 to 95 hours. So, if you have an "easy" line built to say 82 hours block time, chances are you have another 10 or so hours of scheduled deadhead time, bringing you into the 90 to 95 range.
-- max days off is 16. There is one line with 16 off.
-- there are 37 15 day off lines, the rest are mostly 13-14 off, with some 12,11 and 10 thrown in for good measure.

Our wounds are the open kind, we bleed every day......

I think you meant to say "sub-service"
and that is probably what happened.

I dont think we will ever see the day when a non-sked code shares with a major and I dont even think that is legal.

That is disgusting! I see sick leave useage will spike at UAL soon. If they keep up this pace guys will time out in Novemeber...if they stay alive that long.

Wow - that's incredible. Those lines sound like what we got at the regionals, with Part 135 flight and duty time limitations. And like another respondent said, if UAL keeps those up for 2005, you'll have guys timing out by November given 121 limits.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you folks at UAL. It's a tough spot that you are in.

We have skeds like that at AWAC but after vacations and training you don't time out. I haven't heard of anyone timing out this year here.

I fly for Allegiant. We do not code share with United and if your friend took a flight out of ICT then it was to Vegas and connected to a DEN flight on a different carrier. Yes we are also on the lowest payscale in the industry but the company has made money every quarter for the last few years. Im not thrilled about my pay but I am secure in my job.
