Don't let this guy rile your feathers. He's trolling...
Just think of these guys that over the past 30 years haven't been smart enough to get their houses in order over the years.--->You're looking at a small minority and thinking we are all the same. I've still got the original wife, last kid graduates from college in May, only live in one house but invested in real estate and now have some investments that are paying off very well, thank you very much. I drive a 2005 pickup truck ( albeit, loaded) and my wife drives a 1996 car...I want her to get a new one, but she really likes the one she has. Most were around durning the heyday of aviation and now find themselves having to work an extra five years to survive.--->You're half right. I did upgrade quickly...but don't need this age change to survive.
Take pity on them.--->Don't need it, Thank you I'm a mid 30's FO at Aloha and even I'm smart enough to have it figured out where I'll retire at age 60 very comfortably.--->Good on ya. MY plan has worked out verrrry well for me. I've got 12 years to go to get to 60....I'll decide then what to do about this great part-time job. Even if we go through more furloughs and downturns. A little money management and common sense goes a long way.--->Amen to that
That said, I haven't lived the high life like a lot of these old time captains. No trophy wives, multiple houses (well none given to an ex wife anyway), fast cars, and I haven't spent every night eating dinner at $50 a plate restaurants either. --->Thats good....I haven't either. Now, on Christmas, I do splurge on the kids, neices and nephews. My spouse and I do tend to do it up on Valentines Day and our respective Birthdays...hope that meets with your approval
If these guys want to gloat that they 'get' to work another five years, good on them! I can't imagine having to spend another five years sleeping in $hit hotels, commuting between heffer one in seat 22A and heffer two in seat 22C. No more calls from screw-keduling trying to bust me on the FARs or ruin my days off.--->Sounds like you guys need a better contract. Me? Well, my business keeps me busy at home and typically, I put most of my monthly trips in "give away" so that I only do 2-3 3day trips per month.
Nope, not for me, I wanna spend my years from 60-65 doing whatever in the heck I want to with my family and friends.--->I do too...but I wanna stay active. And this job is soooo easy that I have to really think about when I'll go out....60?...61?...62?...63? In addition at age 60, my AF reserve retirement will kick in....more to spend with and on the kids and grandkids ( when that time comes). Even then, a couple of 3 days per month...that'll be nice. Not hoping that I bid correctly and wondering what the first class mystery meat is on this flight!--->You eat airplane food !?!?! Please think about changing your diet...I do want you to make it to 60 so you can enjoy your retirement Age 65 they can have it! Just please don't screw the rest of us so we HAVE to fly until age 65. Most of my peers want to retire at 60... Let us!--->Who says you HAVE to stay until 65? At "my house" if one has enough pennies in their accounts, they can go at age 50...or 53...or 55...or 58...or 60...and now.... 65 if they choose...all with no penalty.
