Skywest, inc was well run. JA has given up a lot of influence and the thee prez's are incompetent.

I heard an interesting argument: "What difference does it make? They'll (management) agree to the TA and then bankrupt us, forcing the pay lower. The Pinnacle guys screwed us."

Does this argument have merit? Can they do this with INC's 700+ million in the bank?

Edumicate me.
In a work, yes. Research the Mesaba sham bankruptcy to see how the game is played. Funnel any profits and assets to holding company, drain the company that actually makes the money dry, at least on the books. Then cry poor to the "government" (i.e. a bankruptcy judge), who will authorize said company to rape employees blind, out of fiscal "necessity." Regardless of the fact that money is being made everywhere hand over fist, and any "shortages" are the direct result of collusion between multiple company managements.

Not to turn this into a political thread, but the government was originally instituted to prevent individuals from plundering one another. Now through the bankruptcy process, the government is used as the main tool for enabling individuals to plunder one another. The bankruptcy process (at least Chapter 11) is an unjust perversion of the free market that needs to go away completely.

Will this happen at XJT? It might, but it also might not, depending on how JA wants to play the game. The ball that we all need to keep an eye on, though, is the fact that the hurdles to becoming an airline pilot have now become too great for someone who will only make regional FO wages, and so management is losing the ability to just shut down one regional and transfer the flying to someone else. We now have real leverage, and we are smarter than the Pinnacle pilots. We don't have to lose this one.

Well said. If they even threatened us with that, the pilots here would repeat 2007. L Nelson would be our leader and advisor.

Skywest Airlines is still well run. And I'm not talking about profits. I'm talking operationally. There doesn't seem to be as many or as good resources on one side of the corporation than on the other. And I'm talking about human resources as well.

They could've flushed the place by making Houston the HQ, but noo. Couldn't do that with all that talent they wanted to retain in Atlanta

Any pilot who been at ASA for the last 4 years or more has already endured an inordinate amount of suffering and life degradation due to our current contract. Horrible work rules and low pay have damaged the pilot group and destroyed many individuals. Threatening the pilot group with a potential loss of future flying will not work as an incentive to an agreement for concessions. Many pilots already plan on leaving or really don't care. There is a lot of anger and resentment toward the company that has festered for the past 5 years. The senior pilot group will not agree to dual qualification if their vacation is paid at 50 seat rates and their monthly pay is reduced when flying the 50. I don't think any pilots would agree to an hourly pay reduction. On the XJT side, I can't imagine things are any different. SKYW INC. is a profitable company. Don't give up your hard earned compensation and hard fought work rule improvements. Ask for more. Ask for what is due to you. You are worth it.

And why are they profitable? I will give you a hint.... It is not because of Xjet.

And I'll give you a few hints:

The reason XJT is not profitable is not because of pilot pay.

It's because management leave millions "on the table" due to incompetence and under-bidding leaving themselves with the only option to use pilots as their personal ATM.

I'm done with that modus.

Concessions?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

They are profitable because of the work that ALL the pilots do for low pay. Our skill set as pilots is very valuable. I think we often undervalue it. When you consider the training, intense oversight, long hours, long periods away from home, health hazards, lack of adequate sleep, public scrutiny, and managerial indifference to our needs, we are paid about half of what we deserve. The majors are getting back to a level of sanity regarding pay and we are going backwards. It's time to draw line.

Sooo, tell me again why the pilots should support concessions?

Next up MECs trying to lower expectations. They already started with the last email "stating remember Comair." The MECs will be the first to cave and start preaching how we just need to fight another day rather than letting time be on our side. We will lose growth blahh blahh. When are we going to act like a real union and fight rather than letting the Co run all over us?

yall are telling mgt to pound sand, well, remember the MECs work & (supposedly) represent us, so telll 'em to pound sand too. Let your LEC Reps know how you feel!

NO!

The Asa mec will sell out the pilots in exchange for a GO job when they are voted out after sli. They do not want to be line pilots again.

Voting "no" regardless of what a TA says.

The pilot group must remember that this industry is very unstable. It always has been. Therefore, relying on pilot hiring at the majors in order to escape substandard wages and work rules is a foolish gamble. All it takes is another terror strike from cave dwelling, camel fking, Islamic ape men to put an end to your career prospects. All you can really count-on is your current job and its current contract. Don't let the major airlines make the regionals their bitches. Use them like they want use you. Make it hard on them. The SKYW market leverage for the regional market is huge, and XJT is two thirds of it. Let's force the issue a little bit. Please think if you are worth more every time you miss your wife and children on 4 day trip, every time you wake up at 3:40 am for a 6 leg day with a 9 hour rest to follow, every time you study new procedures, systems, and SOPs for 5 hours on your free time. You are a highly skilled, highly trained, excessively screened professional. Get paid like one.

I find it a litte convenient that they walked in one day and were simply dumbfounded by the concessionary proposal.

Only to start bringing up Comair in their next email....

I smell a rat(s).
