There was a blurb in Investors Business Daily on Tuesday saying that Alaska had re-negotiated new pay rates for their pilots post arbitraitor ruling. Any word on what that was about and/or any specifics?

Hopefully, some of the bloodshed was undone.

If you can find the old payscale (pre 5-1-05), subtract 20% accross the board and that could possibly be the new payscale as of 7-1-05.
I don't think its an official TA yet because the MEC is still looking at the language in the proposal to decide if its worth passing it to the pilots.

here are some of the specifics and thoughts about the proposal

Looks like from the article that management from the goodness of there heart decided to decrease the cut to 20%. But when you read further that is exchange for getting rid of the A fund for new hires, which was what I thought the Union was trying to prevent.

It would be 20% across the board from the old pay in exchange for a 5 year contract with NO raises except yearly step raises.
-It would include some limited scope language.
-A plan would remain in place for guys on property.
-For new hires a 10-11% Bplan only contribution.
-Preferential Bidding System replaces current system (anyone with experience on this please chime in, I've heard mostly negative)
-Some reserve rule changes, some better, some worse.

It hasn't been decided my the MEC yet if it's even going to membership to vote. But if it does it will all be in place by the end of the month.

Judging by the ALPA web board I'd think it would be a landslide defeat, but as you probably know the boards are a representative vocal anti company minority.

My opinion is that if this delays upgrades significantly I'll vote no because my goal is to be a 12 year Captain. But I'll wait to see what the road show brings before deciding.

I think these are most of the highlights.
Hope this helps.

New pay scale if it passes:

Here it is if it passes:

Capt FO
1 147 42
2 148 73
3 149 89
4 150 94
5 151 96
6 152 100
7 153 102
8 154 104
9 155 107
10 156 109
11 156 110
12 157 111

5 year contract with NO raises.

Make sure you completely examine ONLY the effects on YOUR personal goals, because thinking of the others or the future is really too much effort.

Nice job taking one sentence out of context.

Full of something, that's for sure.

I had a regular line system at the regional I worked for, and a PBS system at Hawaiian and now at AWA.

I much prefer the PBS. It can be a little bit more work each month as you look over the pairings and decide what you want each month but having the flexibility to pick days off or particular trips is great.

Most PBS systems have a 'value' system where you can put more emphasis on a particular item you want. If you absolutely have to have a certain day off, bid 1000 points for that day off and less for other bids like certain trips or other days off.

If you like overnights in a particular city, bid for that. If you want Thursdays off, bid for that. If you want maximum credit hours for the month, bid for that. If you want all your trips to report after 10am, bid for that. If you want trips with a layover in Miami longer than 18 hours, bid for that. With some of the better PBS systems you have a wide variety of options in what to bid for each month.

If you're senior enough you can usually get the kind of schedule you want. If you're junior - well, you probably wouldn't have much of a say in your schedule no matter how it is designed.

Like I said - it's more work, but the quality of life is much better this way.

The arbiTRAITOR did not take all our work rules away as it appears this TA would.
That equals lesser schedules, longer upgrades, less hiring, etc. Plus the captains get less than 2 % raise AND it's a 5 year contract as opposed to 2.
Don't get me wrong, I'm the sole bread winner in my 4 party family and I lost 32% (118 to 80), I feel the pain, but I just don't know yet if the short term gain is worth the long term effects.
But it's a good question you bring up.

HAL -
Thanks for the info, I have heard rumors that if this thing passes we would have virtually no say in the operation of the PBS or the vendor, which I have heard is going to be Navtech.
Our bidding system as it is I have great control of my line and I'm a junior line holder. I really don't want to be at the mercy of the company regarding my schedule. After the pay cut it's the only good deal left.

BTW, when did you leave HAL? I've always thought HAL would be one of the few companies I'd like to work for. That's based only on the attitude of the employees and the few times I've ridden on HAL. Plus the domiciles.

One time I went to Hawaii for a funeral and had to JS. The captain and FA's put me in 1st without even hesitating. When the FA came by with drinks she gave me guava juice. That was great, it's the little things. I came home on NW and asked the FA for Guava juice. She looked at me like I was on crack.

I will be awaiting to see if it makes it past the MEC, and then I will go to the roadshows and make my final decision. Lots of details and no one knows exactly what we have in the TA.

I wonder if the PBS is part of it...I have only found one reference to PBS in the December TAs and that said the association and company would explore the implementation. Nothing more.

I was furloughed two years ago yesterday. About a quarter of the total pilot list is still on the street. HA emerged from bankruptcy today but there are no plans for recalls until more planes arrive on the ramp - which could be a long time from now. The people there are uniformly great to work with, and it was a big disappointment to get furloughed.

Yes, it was a pretty good deal to work there. I was based in Seattle so it was the best of both worlds. Based at home & go to Hawaii while working.

After the pounding the MEC took for not providing something to vote on I'll bet we get a vote on this. If they really don't like it they'll just recommend a neutral or no.

Absolutely. I have not spoken with one person yet who plans to vote yes.Nearly all agree this is worse than what the arbitraitor gave us.
