I heard a rumor that the Alaska MEC sent a counter proposal to the company and the company has responded to that. Is that true and any word on what their response was? At least you can be happy that you paid for the mechanics and fa's raise.

2nd rumor was a 3 year hiring freeze for pilots. Any truth to that?

hiring freeze? I would kinda doubt it. They already had to cancel a ton of flights last summer for lack of crews. With a few more A/C on the way, even if they are only replacing MD's, they will need more people. I talked with someone this morning that mentioned Alaska cancels 18 flights a day out of SEA. Not sure if this is an average or if this is cause lack of equipment/crews or what. All I know is that if I were a pax on one of these flights that is always canceling I would be pissed.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 3 year hiring freeze. This company has a long tradition of cutting their own throats to prove a point. The many canceled flights are due to the situation that Alaska Managment has put their pilots in. It is not going to get better for the pax until managment comes to their senses. They know how to fix it, they could pick up the phone and do it this afternoon but then again, remember what I said about cutting their own throats to prove a point.

Yank.....what's going on here? Cool off and gather your thoughts- rationally.

I think ferlo is absolutely on the money. Another reason flights are being cancelled is that aircraft are late coming out of heavy maintenance. Management fired about 700 mechanics last year and outsourced heavy maintenance to save money. Looks like that isn't working so well.

Shoot, why are they replacing MD80s? The last of the dinosaurs, loud-ass takeoff, mechanical flight controls... what more could you want!

I got the opposite impression after speaking with an AS captain the other day. Between retirements and 35 new aircraft ordered he anticipates a few hundred new hires in the next few years. Obviously he's not the guy makng the decision but it's pretty logical given the circumstances.

I learned quickly here that logic does not apply. Who knows what they're going to do. I do know that what ever the plans are they are planning on putting it on the backs of the pilots. 10% of the employees have given over 65% of the total givebacks asked by the company to fuel this "illusion 2010". They stripped up to 34.3% pay from their pilots and then had the balls to say that there was a "typo" in the arbitraition award and stole another 15 minutes pay off of every vacation day. These SOB's have made their bed and now our pax are the ones who have to lay in it. Too bad but I will not bleed another drop for this airline.

As an Alaska F/O who took a 28.8% cut I can only say this and I think the other Alaska guys on this board will agree that at a minimum taking us back to a 15% across the board ( I think 10 to 12%) will ease things moral wise with the pilot group. But even more than that I would like to see Dennis Hammel AND George Bagely get fired. These guys are a cancer to the health of this airline.

As for a pilot freeze that is not going to happen. We lose something like 45 this year and 65 next year. That would be more like commiting suicide, not cutting your own throat.

And just as a thought with regard to the Air Canada cancelation of their order from Boeing due to their pilots rejecting their T/A, don't be surprised if the same happens here. Lets stick together fellas, some one has to stop the bleeding so why not us!!

If we foolishly agree to PBS, we won't hire for a long time. I took the 34.3% cut, and I say shove this TA a long way up the APU exhaust. They didn't get nearly what they thought they would staffing wise with Kasher's award. If we vote NO on the TA they are going to be about 6 months behind the hiring curve.

since the beginning of the year all the equiptment bids have been for reducing pilots. In all about 46 for 2005. We have not hired for the year so loosing 46 pilots might have a little to do with the summer cancellations.
My understanding is that due to the kasher castration we just got, the company essentially made about 150 with work rule changes which might give some merrit to not hiring for 3 years.
One rumor (and is just that, RUMOR) I did hear is that part of the companies counter proposal was a 17.5% paycut accross the board and doing away with the A-plan within 5 years. Did not hear if it was a soft/hard freeze or other.

I don't think the company gained that many pilots via the Kasher award. The trips still get dropped for vacation and training. Sure some guys will have to pick up some flying to get back some hours, but we should get 75 hours as a line holder and 76 as a reserve. There will be a greviance if the company doesn't agree and we will win, that language is very clear in our contract.

As far as bank vacation...a lot of the guys that have it will use sick leave instead. They drop the trip and still get paid for it. Company gains nothing that way.

Bottom line is we don't have the pilots or a/c to run a full summer schedule right now. They cut there own throats as furlo stated just to prove a point and now its biting them in the a$$. The ramper dabacle is a convient excuse for them to reduce the schedule and blame it mostly on us juevinile delinquents. The new outsourced heavy maint. is not getting the a/c out on time. Great decisions that are costing us more money.

It will be interesting to see what the improved TA contains. Ayerhead and the boys know what they need to do.

Does anyone know when the TA is scheduled to be proposed to or voted on by the pilot group?

Road shows scheduled for next week, and I would assume voting to quickly follow.

If Preferential bidding is in the ta I hope it fails. PBS would screw the fo's worse than they have already been.

I know it says posted 6-21 but I think that's probably just an update. I'm pretty sure that has been there for a while.

My guess, however, is expect a bid sometime end of July-early August.

At least they're THINKING about it. Any news on classes for those remaining in the pool? Bueller?
