Just a couple of questions about AS?

1. What base/equip would be the quickest to get a line.

2. I searched this form and it has been said that reserve is anywhere from <1 year to 5-6 years...which is it?

3. I was able to view a few of your bid packets and under reserve it lists "A1" and "R1" what is the difference between the two.

4. How much flexibility is there with reserve days, i.e. trading (with someone else) swaping (with yourself), etc.

5. Does AS allow you to fill your reserve schedule from open time...i.e. - if there is a trip open later in the month, will they give it to a reserve on a reserve day ahead of time or are all of the assignments given to reserves the day before/day of only.

1. quickest to get a line is probably LAX 737.

2. There are guys in LAX holding a line after 4-5 months. I have been in SEA 737 for over 5 years and just starting to hold open flying (vacation/training lines) so both are correct

3. A1 is a 2 hour call to show and R1 is a 4 hour call to show to crew lounge.
The 1 is the 15 hour zone you are in. Zone 1 starts at 0400 and goes to 1859. SEA has a total of 8 different zones starting as early as 0300 and as late as 1700.

4. The last couple of months I have been able to trade reserve days fairly easy. The first 4+ years was not so easy. Depends on staffing.

5. All assignments are given the day off or the day before the trip. I have never gotten an assignment more than one day ahead of time.

How many days off a month on reserve? I've heard everything from 10 to 15.

In October, ANC bottom line holder was about 3 years, and it was about 6 months seniority for the bottom open flying line.
A reserve gets 11 days off/month.

Right now at America West/US Airways reserve is 12 off(30 day month) and 13 off(31 day month). The draw back is with the merger I'll be on reserve for eternity plus one day. Alaska still rules.
