Alaska Hiring?

Heard a rumor from a couple Alaska guys that they were going to begin hiring 20 a month beginning next month. Any truth to this at all? Got my fingers crossed it is true.

Arbitration starts tomorrow, 3/1 thru 3/10. We will know more after that is settled. I think it is safe to say we will hire. We retire 40 this year with a yet to be determined # of early retirements. I have heard anywhere from 20 to 130. I believe it will be closer to the 20 number.

As far as abitration, who knows.

Latest "schoolhouse" rumor I heard is roughly 12 a month until further notice after the arbitrator's decision.

So far all I hear are rumors, as well. Basically the same thing that Singlecoil said...the 12 a month thing. However, there is nothing firm on the training schedule (at least on the MD-80) for Initial Qual training for the next couple of months. Only CQ (recurrent).

One more rumor, since we're spreading them. We/they (however you want to look at it) have been interviewing for a couple of instructor positions. One of the guys interviewing made it more or less clear his goal was a pilot slot. The HR representative basically said they can't really go there at this point. They are not in the pilot interview mode and couldn't say when they would be. Her best guess was fall.

So, just another rumor to throw into the pile.

No. The last people hired under that program came on several years ago.

During the inital pre-screen phone call they ask if you have used any tobacco products in the last 6 months, and as part of the pre-employment drug testing they do the required DOT test and also a separate test for nicotine. After that initial pre-employment test, I have no idea if they keep testing for nicotine. I don't think so, since I have never been tested specifically for it since the pre-employment...but at the same time, I don't see people smoking on the job. I guess you could say they prefer non-users of nicotine products.

Probably after the arbitration decision. We're kinda short crews.

He has until April 30. Everyone will know than.

I have heard the classes will run closer to the 20+ per month number once the contract is complete. We will see.

I can't help but think the abitration will be the beginning of the next round of contract talks. Much like the -900 pay went. The games are certainly not over.

So does that mean the company won't even consider calling for interviews until after the arbitration award (May or June), or will they begin calling sooner in order to commence classes by the time the award is given (May/June)? Former posts have talked about needing guys on line by June in order to not cancel flights. What gives over there?
