I heard a rumor that Alaska was going to cancel the most recent bid. Any truth to this? Anyone been called for a class that would be filling one of those vacancies? Or anyone at Alaska been scheduled for training that they were awarded on the last bid? Hopefully not true. Not trying to spread a rumor, just trying to verify.

Classes start Mar 20th and April 17th. This is accurate as of 8am on Feb 28th. I have the number of trainees in each and aircraft assignments. I can also get the names with minimal effort, if it matters.

No names don't matter, just glad the rumor is not true. I heard it from an Alaska pilot that I know.

Flx757,

Do those classes include people that are already at Alaska and are transitioning. I am getting really tired of waiting to see when I am going to training. They said expect to go as early as March and that they would let us know approximately 2 weeks after the bid came out, but they didn't.

I haven't heard a rumor about the bid being cancelled...however anything is possible, I suppose. But the training dept and training scheduling are proceeding with business as usual. There have been 2 new full-time instructors hired within the past month...one on each aircraft type. The 737 guy is in training now and the MD guy starts with the Mar 20th class (although it is a good bet the MDs will be retired at the end of 2008. More details about that on or around March 10th. But even with retiring them in '08, training continues due to people shuffling around each bid.) The new -800 sim is being installed in the building as we speak, and the schedulers were in here recently discussing the next bid and training plan. So, life goes on, as far as I can tell.

K. Marx,

I believe they do. Our first class on the MD (which starts systems Apr 3rd) includes 2 new hires and 2 upgrades. I can ask the 737 guys what they have for each of the first 2 classes also and get back to you.

Thanks!

Flex,
Why are we having such a low number of newhires in the current classes?
Current class 2, previous class 3.
Does not seem efficient at all.

The numbers for the new hire classes are as follows:

March - 13
April - 12
May - 8
June - 19
July - 12
Aug - 12

The number (2) that I gave above was the number of new hires going into the MD for March, not the total number in the class. (And any clue as to "why" anything happens around here is defintely not in my job description/pay grade... )
