opinion only
I have heard a wide variety of opinions on the merger. If a guy is X-Jet America, he will probably still be on the MD and will say that it was the best airline ever on the face of the planet. He might also add something about being screwed by the merger - like maybe he should have gotten a deal better than DOH. How about DOH plus a year - now that would have been fair!
The other side is about the fact that ALPA gave up a big chunk of coin on a concessionary contract. Shortly thereafter, Alaska management bought Jet-A, and gave them DOH which forced some native Alaska pilots out of their Captain seats. Now would that make me mad? Give up a pay cut, which allows my airline to go out and buy another airline with my money, then loose my Captain's seat because of it? I think I might be a touch torqued.
I don't even know how long Jet-A was even in business. I think it was less than 5 years. In this business, that is nothing, just a flash in the pan. There is still a little "shrine" in the training center with a bunch of Jet-A stuff - which makes no sense to me. And yes, we are still stuck with a bunch of high priced MD-80 leases that we bought from Jet-A.
