Oh Jesus F-ing Christmas.

Why couldn't those two NWA yahoos come up with a better excuse than the laptop thing.

I wonder if Franken knows that some airlines have company issued laptops.

Before this we actually had a good argument for having comuters with wifi access to use for real time weather and radar and other stuff...now we can forget about it.

Following reports that two Northwest Airline pilots overshot the Minneapolis Airport by 150 while working on their laptops, Minnesota Senator Al Franken announced that he plans to introduce legislation to prohibit laptops in the cockpit. Franken said:
“We don’t tolerate texting while driving and we’re certainly not standing for it while flying,” Franken said in a statement. “It would be unthinkable to allow a driver to use a laptop. A pilot responsible for the lives of dozens if not hundreds of passengers needs to be that much more focused on the job.”
Franken's legislation comes even as Northwest and its parent company, Delta, confirm that using laptops while flying a plane is against company policy. Franken apparently thinks that the force of law will have more effect on pilots' behavior than a corporate edict from on high

Instead of the goverment being needed, why don't the unions get these people fired. I mean, come on, the union has to defend them and will. So what if there is a federal law, until the union takes an active role in getting ride of those individuals that find it okay to act like the check out people in walmart, we will never ever get the profeshional respect we have been asking for. It has been a joke, everytime we take a step forward, someone is doing something like this. It is like, in high school, most pilots that is where the education stops, if the teachers and principles are out looking, they will find you and drop the hammer for the little things. Management is looking, folks. And if we do not take pride in our jobs and follow the simple rules, then we will never get anything back.

How the hell do you expect to get PROFESSIONAL respect when you spell incorrectly EVERY TIME ?

:smash:

Al Franken just wants to get rid of laptops so pilots will no longer be able to view his horrible attempts at comedy.

-What a tool!

Thank you Senator Stuart Smalley! All we need is more knee jerk legislation before the investigation is even complete! Doesn't he realize that airlines typically already have policies and procedures in place about what is or is not allowed in the cockpit? This needs to be handled by the company, union and FAA, not congress.

Just another grandstanding politician wanting his wrinkled old mug on TV.:( Doesn't he have some young male pages or interns to go play with?
