Yeah the new bill

Millions for new ATV trails????
Millions to Porn industry???
Water Park for Miami???

Great way to help AMERICANS
OBAMA=Just like the rest of them, now has to pay back all that money !

Airtran loses 100 million and DL and UA lose 1.2 BILLION = it is called COOKING the BOOKS. How many years now has Delta and others lose BILLIONS and still in BUSINESS? It does have to make you wonder?

My apologies. From what you wrote previously it seemed you had no idea what was going on and that you were completely ignorant of what went on over the last eight years. In fact, you called anyone who did not agree with you "naive." But, since you say you don't need a clue, I retract the one I gave you. My mistake.
Mama,
You dont post often but when you do its right on!

From AirTran to Eye-ran . . . . talk about thread creep. No wonder I don't spend much time here anymore.

2008 was the first unprofitable year since 1999. The sky is not falling. AirTran will be in a solid position for the next few quarters. If oil stays low, we'll be around for a while.

If it shoots back up over $120., look for a trip thru Chapt 11.

Hey Ty, welcome back! I hope we don't see oil spike back up. You may see more than one airline go into bankruptcy if oil gets back to where it was last summer. Oil closed today 1/28/09 around $42 dollars a barrel. If oil could stay around $42 dollars +/- a few bucks, I believe the airlines have positioned themselves pretty good for 2009. Lets cross our fingers and a few toes. Would like to see guys get back to work this year. (and a new contract too)

Eagle, while you and your fellow socialists are crossing your fingers and toes for low oil prices lets hope good American investors are allowed to drill and produce the domestic oil we need.

Oil, by definition, is short term. While I agree that we need to drill for more oil domestically - it will NOT last forever. What good American investors should be doing is making the US the world leader in exporting renewable energy technologies.

I'm sure this has something to do with AirTran's cash position - I'm just not sure how....

Eagle757Shark, save your breath. In a previous life I use to fly around the rich and famous doing charter. A lot of these guys on these boards think they are going to someday be worth millions if only the gov'ment would get off their backs and out of their lives. 99% of the people we flew were die hard republicans and let me tell you, they do not give one iota about the average joe. You are not in their class and never will be, but many on these board think they will someday. The country was run into the ground economically, our civil liberities were infringed upon and you have guys come on here worrying about how tax cuts will affect them. I will close by paraphrasing Gatsby, the rich are not like you and me. They are worse.

Spot on Ty. With Jet A below $2/gallon, Q4 2008 won't be the last quarter where we post a $50 operating profit.

And with the way the world ecomony is cruising right now, hard to see oil demand going up anytime soon. Lets just hope the supply side stays relatively stable or that Israel doesn't try to wipe Iran off the map until all their oil is pumped out of the ground.

Oil, by definition, is short term. Not a definition I was able to find in any dictionary.

While I agree that we need to drill for more oil domestically - it will NOT last forever. Really? How do you know that? How long will it last?

What good American investors should be doing is making the US the world leader in exporting renewable energy technologies. You should be free to invest in solar and wind powered jets and cars but please don't force me to.

I'm sure this has something to do with AirTran's cash position - I'm just not sure how....

I'd much rather be free than rich.

Zero,

Not sure if you were talking about me but I' not worried about being rich, I just want to be free. Free to participate in government retirement insurance or not to participate. I would like to be free to buy a car that uses as much or little gasoline as I chose.

I want you to be free too. Free to live in a commune if you chose. Free to believe that the oceans are rising. Free to not eat red meat. Free to use only wind energy. Free to send your glass and plastic garbage to the dumb in seperate truck. Free to not associate with evil rich people.

You sir are out of line! I'm no socialist and have never called anyone else on this board a socialist. Because I said that I was willing to give the man a chance, I'm a socialist? I'm a combat veteran that loves this country! You talk about freedom, but what have you done for freedom? I have not stated rather I'm a Republican or a Democrat and that is not important. I'm an american that believes in a democracy. In this country we have the freedom of choice.
Poster Mamma and I had a very spirited debate above. I admire his passion and respect his opinion. Through private email, we had the opportunity to have a good discussion.
I personally am willing to take a wait and see approach of this new administration. I give no politican a free pass, but the man has only been in office one week. I will tell you though I'm tired of watching my profession go down hill. I'm tired of watching management destroy collective bargaining agreements and changing the rules. Pensions have been lost, wages have been lost, and benefits have been lost in my industry. Instead of pilots fighting each other, we need to find common ground and fight for our profession. So please take your unfounded comments and take them somewhere else! Thank you!

Gentlemen, I apologize for the personal attacks on this thread. This thread is supposed to be about AirTran's 4th quarter performance. Hopefully we can get back on point!

I'd rather be rich too. Freedom comes with being rich, you get both. Besides what is wrong with red meat? We were made to eat meat.

And, recycling is a waste of time. Gets rid of jobs.

Eagle, while you and your fellow socialists are crossing your fingers and toes for low oil prices lets hope good American investors are allowed to drill and produce the domestic oil we need.

You can drill all you want it won't get you anywhere. The easy oil has already been found, what is left is difficult and expensive to get, oil prices need to adjust up to the 80-100 dollar range to make it viable for these investors to increase the capturing of these oil reserves. The moral to this story is we want oil to stay at 50 or less and the only way to do that is to heavily influence americans into being more efficient. How do you influence people to be more efficient? Gas tax would be a great start......5 dollars a gallon gas while oil is 40 per barrel for mass transit folks ie airlines. In other words you can have your SUV but it will cost you. Or you can trade in your 16 mpg SUV for a 50 mpg diesel Jetta and boooom 5 dollar a gallon gas is more like 1.70 dollar a gallon gas. Airlines would flurish because we would finally have a stable gas price at a low price.......NOW THATS USING YOUR BRAIN.......but wait all you neoconservative Rush listeners have a closed brain so you won't understand.......

We lost 118 million for the fourth quarter. Down to 340 million in cash. One more quarter like this and I think we might have to go into bankruptcy! Discuss.

yet you can buy a ticket on them for less than $200. They even got the non-stop prices listed for cheaper. All that makes a lot of sense.

Times before FL were so much better.......open planes to commute on, pensions, higher wages, better work rules- good luck with that now.

" Free to send your glass and plastic garbage to the dumb in seperate truck."

Hmmm, a new concept... "The Dumb Truck".

However, I don't envision it being used to send recyclables to the dumb. Rather, we could use fleets of them to collect the dumb for "recycling".

I think we might want to back one up to FI.com and fill 'er up.

Its kinda funny how people forget that we never really had to deal with Iran because of Iraq. Having a strong Iraq that hated Iran was really a pretty good thing. Now, we have an Iraq that could never stand up to Iran, and Iran is building nukes.... IMO, Ill take Sadam back any day. At least then we don't have to worry about a nulcear Iran...

Most Iraqis would agree with you that Sadam was a good thing. It will take 30 years to undo the mentality of this generation of Iraqis. They did not fight for the independance. It was shoved down their throat. The only respect for government that Iraqis have is based on fear. Just ask your local Iraqi in the U.S., like I have, how Americans don't "respect" their government and you will understand what I am talking about. They equate fear with respect.

Maybe the younger generations will learn to appreciate it, but I doubt it. Religion is the center of their beliefs. Islam is a spitefull religion that promotes destroying others (infidels) that do not believe what you do instead of loving them inspite of what they believe.

I am afraid history will look back on this war as destabilzing the region and a waste of American blood.
