Nobody's saying much so I thought I'd get it going. I'm going to class soon and just wondering how things are going from the line's perspective? Anything special I should know before class. Can't wait.

Get ready for the firehose of knowledge. Other than that, they supply everything you need. Aircraft bids the first day so have an idea which you'd like (old guys pick first). 717 has better schedules, but you may sit reserve just a little longer than 737 (probably only a few months anyway).

Welcome aboard!

Congrats to you. Did you complete the on-line application before getting the call? Thanks for any other AirTran info as you progress through you new carrer.

For any of you guys recently hired at Airtran, how long between the interview and class date?

I have a buddy who is interviewing this week.

Any idea about aircraft type yet? Good job.

I also start class later this week. The on-line app came after my interview I believe. A buddy of mine walked in my resume back in September.

As far as aircraft go, I already have about 1300+ hours on the 737-800 so training for the 737 would be less stressfull. But I probably will bid the 717 for something different.

Is reserve just a few months on either aircraft?

By the way, any MSY commuters? I jumpsat a few times and more often than not the planes were very full.

Looking forward to class!

New Hires,

Be ready for management to come in and give the "Doom and Gloom" speech. They've been doing it to just about every new-hire and recurrent class lately.

You'll here how we need to cut our flight ops budget if we are to remain competitive, how we'll stop expanding/hiring if we don't, how Delta, JetBlue, Independence, UsAir are killing us, blah, blah blah.....

Just remember we are currently in section 6 contract negotiations and this is nothing but political posturing and a bunch of B.S.

What they won't tell you is that according to the latest earnings report, our non-fuel CASM went DOWN. So basically they want us to chip in for gas.

Welcome aboard, I think you'll like it here, most guys do.

I was called for an interview on a thursday, interviewed the following wednesday and hired the following monday. A buddy walked my stuff in, in november, met S. Grantham in December and got the call in mid January. Furloughed from ATA at the end of January, so this is great. Actually, today is my last day.

I know about the doom and gloom. It's all doom and gloom nowadays, it seems. We'll see you citrus boys on the line.

I see on their employment page they want 500 hours 121 pic or military equiv. Is there any conversion for 91/135 turbine PIC?

As a former 91/135 guy, I am disappointed to say that right now, they are holding out for 121 PIC time.

If someone knows of any changes, please let me know, because I have a few friends I have been trying to get on here with multiple types, several thousand hours of 135 jet PIC and multiple recommendations, and so far, it's been zilch, zip, nada.

You, sir, are killing me. "Chip in for gas money to the kegger". Heh-heh. I think this Gremlin will make it there and back on slosh fuel, myself.

And for all the ATA newhires, and newhires in general- "Welcome aboard".

Sounds like your management needs to learn a few things...

That's pretty revealing. Everyone says: Hey, I THINK you'll LIKE it here. If you want to go work for a company that people just like, well I guess it sounds as if people sorta kinda like Air Tran. Wow, that motivates me. I guess.

We like our job, you love your kool-aid. Fair enough.

If you are so happy where you're at, Dave, why don't you stick to cruising the corn-dog posts and leave the AirTran stuff to us.

We DO like it here, and although management isn't perfect, we're not going to change 'em on this board, so kindly p!ss off.

I have a ?. Did boeing adopt the DC9 systems for the 717 or did they redesign the systems? I heard the DC9 was a real pain to learn but I fly the 37 and it ain't so bad. Any input?

Are you going to change your screen name to atlantasux?

Watch out. If I live there and don't like it, I may. Would you be offended? Because if you would, I might do it just to get under your skin. Just jabbin ya. Have you ever been to Terre Haute?

Well, over 700 commuters can't be wrong . . . . Heh-heh.

The 717 has some nice features that I wish they had incorporated in the 73NG. The instrument panel is the same as the MD11, they just staggered the screens so they would fit. The 73NG also has some nice features. Both have plenty of power.

We use all the bells and whistles- autothrottles, autoland, autobrakes, IAN approaches, etc. . . . . so bid the NG and help a brother out . . . heh-heh. Seriously, I would bid the 73NG if you have previous experience in it, no doubt. Why make it harder for yourself, and with 19 more coming this year, you should have decent lines and seniority before long.
