It's a start in the right direction. Delta wants a piece of the $2.5M that AirTran will receive for servicing Wichita. The FAA is saying this promotes unfair competition in the area, and wants the city to stop handing out guarantees to the carrier or any other carrier because the money is coming from taxpayers. FAA will stop payment of future grant money to ITC if practice is not discontinued.
The next step will be to ban "Travel Banks" from cities where corporate money is used to guaranty AirTran profits. DL is just as guilty as AirTran as they are accepting "Travel Bank" money at I believe Lansing. Travel Banks should only be allowed to subsidize service to cities not presently served from the primary airport.
