$405 at AIR Inc. with ALPA dicount!!! Ouch. So, anyone who's been throught the process - is it worth coughing up (Here ya go Kit, more of my meager slary for you) or not?

Thanks for the input...

T.

I felt is was worth it...

I did it (I shared a session with another furoloughed pilot). I got to watch him do the profile, then I did it.

After we each did it twice, we felt a lot better about flying the "sim"--It is a very wierd machine, so I'm glad I did the prep (with the IP brief, help as well).

Put it this way. I got the job. Some guys did NOT get hired here, and a few of them know for sure that they screwed up something in the simulator.

That's what credit cards are for :)

If you want to do well at your interview, you'll spend the money. I would HIGHLY recommend you do so! This sim is unlike any other you've flown. If you share the sim with someone else the cost is almost half of the normal price. When I went through I go the Air INC discount--I also got the job--your call.

As my fellow Airtran pilots have said before.....buy the SIM time!! I would say if you dont get the SIM prep you probably wont be hired. I know many of the HR and SIM instructors for the interview and many pilots do well in the interview process but bust the SIM bigtime. Just my opinion...if you want to fly for AIRTRAN..buy the time! If may be $400-500 dollars...but over a career its peanuts. As my comrads have said .....we love it here and I would like to make my last 15 years right here. Hopefully will get a July upgrade...am taking the 717. Right now better schedules..more movement..nice automation. Even CAT II AUTOLAND! Good luck to all and those that are getting ready for class..have fun..!!!

Does anyone know what kind of flight hours are competitive with an internal rec???

q100,

Air Inc isn't the only one with an Elite sim. Just find somewhere that has one by calling around. I got on their website (flyelite.com)and found out they are in Orlando. They wanted $25/hour to use it (no instructor). Just have them set it up on the MD-81 profile and it is the same feel and picture as the AirInc model.

After using theirs, I went to the local flight school in Winter Haven, Fl and they had one for a rate of $20/hour. Even after 5 months of no flying since I left the Navy, I smoked the sim since I had several rounds of practice.

If you have the time, call around, you'll find one. Also, share the sim time with someone for a better rate at Air Inc.

Good luck,
Catfish

Good call Catfish. However, if you're going to do this, make sure you reference www.aviationinterviews.com and make every attempt to practice the profile that's described there. In a perfect world, you want your practice to be nearly identical to what you'll see at the interview.

sim prep

I payed the full $600.00 or so for the sim prep and interview prep together. Got hired, so it was the best $600.00 I ever spent. If you don't do the sim prep and don't get hired, would you kick yourself in the arse forever for not investing?

Fuzzy welcome aboard!! Which class were you in? 717 or 737? Enjoy yourself! If you got the 717 youll hear this in CBT training all the time...

The prep was worth it. I did not get hired but I know for a fact I did well in the sim. The evaluator said, "Great job. Welcome to AirTran, you will like working here." Why I didn't get the job will probably haunt me until I retire, but as they say "that's life".
