Got some pool info from an excellent source last week:
-Currently 38 folks swimming
-Possible class in January, but nothing firm.

Keep those laps going.

I hear there is a class tentatively scheduled for January 8th for 12 lucky (and highly qualified) souls.

I've also heard we plan to hire 25/month until we get 500 pilots hired. There should be around 250 - 300 pilots hired in '04.

Great News!!

Cheers

Talked to J.T. in crew planning for 04 numbers of New Hires to plan a budget. The total I was told for 04 is 200 -230,give or take a few. That is for 14 retirments and 18 aircraft at 12 pilots per aircraft.

How many are at right now? Is it 850?

Geez, I could be 550 out of 1050 or so by the end of my third year?

Yeah, Baby!

Those interested..

GC just called this morning to offer class on January 08, 2004. Will be 14 airmen in the class. Really excited to start. Best of luck to all of those in the "pool." I'm sure it won't be long now. What a GREAT early holiday present. See you guys/gals soon.

Cheers

mchdtw,

Congrats. What a way to start off the new year.

Could you give the rest of us some more info so we can get an idea where we stand?

When did you interview?

How many hired in your group?

What whas you original class date?

Thanks and good luck.

I interviewed at the same time as mchdtw. We interviewed in Aug. Originally we were scheduled to go to class in Oct. Then the thing with the aircraft deliveries postponed it. I got called this morning for a Jan. 8th class. I was happy all day, called all my friends. Got a message this afternoon from Greta that the Jan 8th class is now cancelled. WHAT GIVES! Said she would call back when they schedule another class. I didn't actually get to talk to her, did anyone else get this message? I'm curious as to what happened. If anyone knows, let me know.

Grrrrr-

I hate hearing stuff like this.

Unfortunately, I am not surprised. It seems like the communication between some departments is very lacking, at times.

All I can say is that you're almost past the gatekeepers. Once you slip through the door, and past the three-headed beasts that guard it, you're in!

Thankfully, the rest of the operation is much smoother than the hiring process.

Hang in there.

A similar thing happened to me. I was originally scheduled for class in Feb '02. It was postponed until Apr....then postponed indefinitely, then finally rescheduled (and was held) in Aug.

Ty is right. Sometimes the communitcation between departments is lacking. Hang in there. Class will eventually go. And in all likelihood with short notice.

Jstarav8r-

As we have emailed.

Game On. Game Off. Game On, and yes once again Game Off. They have to be close to making a firm decision though. Can't wait to be through those "gates."

Fmr727drvr-

Jstarav8r and myself interviewed Aug 19.
2/12 hired in our interview group (to our knowledge).
Original class date was Oct 09, 2003.

Good Luck and have a great holiday.

Cheers-

I interviewed in 4/01 and waited five months to find out if I was hired. I still call my wife sometimes and say, "Did AirTran call? Did you check the mail?" It's a running joke at my house.

Then, after all that, I finally get the nod, and a class date, only to have it cancelled because of a bunch of 9/11.

The good news is that once hiring resumes, life should be pretty good. You probably won't be doing much reserve, since the floodgates will open behind you- I was only on reserve 2 or 3 weeks, and then went right to a line. Sounds like you guys might have the same luck.

4/01...those were the good ole days!! When anybody with an airline pilot dream could make it happen:D I know for a fact that Airtran had given HR interviews to 400 hour pilots from a flight school in the summer of 2001. They were to be followed by technical interviews a couple months later, then 9/11 interfered. Now look where we are at...8000 hours!!! Will the good ole days ever return for the youngsters who have stars in their eyes as we speak.

400 Hours? Hmmmnnnn. With the way the market was heading, maybe they did some initial research in that direction . . . after all, UAL used to hire 350TT pilots from my alma mater- as long as they could "check a box", but this sounds a little far-fetched. The minimums were 2500tt, but when I interviewed, I was the low time guy in my interview group, with 2900tt/1100 jet/500 jet PIC

What ever happened to the class in January? Is it a go?

It got cancelled. I got called in the morning with the date, got called back in the afternoon that it was cancelled. I don't know what happened in that 7 hour period. I hope they call this week. Maybe it got postponed for a week or so. The gates have got to open soon, I HOPE!!!

BTW, I noticed you flew Miss Piggy. Did you fly for a now acquired airline in St. Louis? If so, I did too. I sure miss it, before it was acquired and my job was saved that is.

Yes and I miss it too! I am flying a corporate shuttle now on a BA3100. Yuck! I can’t wait to start over with a company that just generally has a better attitude than say….. sky-nazis! I am in the 20’s in the pool so I should be in the 2nd or 3rd class, see you on campus!

To everyone in the pool...

Just be patient a little bit longer. The reason that class dates keep changing is because manning models keep changing based on projected service requirements, arrival of new aircraft, and the completion of DC9 crew transition. As far as the DC9 crew transition is concerned we have just begun transitioning the final set of crews to the 717. We have just been informed in the training dept. that they have broken next months group into two classes (which is probably the reason for the latest new hire class cx. Also, as of yesterday they are not planning on having a new hire class until Feb. (All information is subject to change on a daily basis.) However, when new hire training does begin, it will begin slowly but then EXPLODE in April/May. We have been told that whatever training numbers that we have in July/August will be indicative of the amount of training that we can expect monthly for the next five years. 2004 projection is for 150-200 pilots.
