Got the call this morning for an interview next week!! :D For those interested, I spoke with the recruiters at 2 AIR Inc. conferences (Nov ATL and Apr LAX), as well as had one internal rec earlier this year.

Question converting military flight time for the app...... I searched a thread posted a few months ago which discussed what to put in the PIC, SIC, and Captain time. The consensus seemed to be to fill the PIC column as defined by part 61, while the Captain time column would be filled with the part 1 definition. Does anyone have any more recent knowledge/opinions on the subject? I don't have a way to separate "at the controls" time from "sign for the aircraft" time with the military logs - ideas?

From what I gather by searching, calls go out anywhere from 2 weeks to a couple months after the interview. How 'bout timeframe from interview to training start date? I suppose all this will change depending on aircraft deliveries.

Thanks all.....:)

Moose, congrats on the interview. I'll give you a real quick version of my timeframe. I interviewed on April 13th, got the call five weeks and one day later and was offered a class date of June 3rd or June 17th. I went with the 17th so I could give my current employer enough notice. Good luck!

Moose,

Congrats on the interview. I was offered the job 3 wks after the interview and was in class 2 wks after that. Since I was in the last class hired for a while, I was on reserve longer than you'll ever be. I'll hit 1 yr in August and I really like the flight crews and the company. I just had a great 4 day trip which was a lot of fun.

Good luck and we'll see you in ATL.

Hey Mooseflyer, I'm curious. Did you like flying the C17? Your the first person Ive seen on here whos actually flown one. Hows the C17 compare to other USAF cargo ac? Are they pretty nice aircraft?

Denver,

Yup, the C-17 is a pretty amazing machine. It does what it was designed to do very well. Our training flights and some of our missions were pretty exciting, but also a lot of work! Low levels, formations, airdrop, short field landings, night vision goggle work, air refueling, etc. We also have our share of boring over the ocean flying, but that's not always bad. Like any new airplane, there were some glitches when it first started flying, but major hardware issues have been worked out. New software uploads pose a few problems now and again, but we haven't had a major software issue in a few years. I can't compare it to any other lifter in the USAF, as the C-17 was all I ever flew out of training. There are a few other folks who post on this board with C-17 time as well as other aircraft time who may be able to comment.

Our trips used to be a lot of fun, running from 1 to about 3 weeks and going many different locations around the world. A lot changed after 9/11 though, as you may imagine. I'll refrain from airing dirty laundry, but we see a whole lot more of the middle east and less of everywhere else (including home), as you may also imagine. If you've got any other quesitons, send me a PM so we don't tie up everyone's time on the thread. Sorry for the OT.....

Hey 75M,

Do you mean you'll hit 1 year on reserve in August or 1 year with the company? If you're off reserve, how long were you on?

Moose,

Don't worry too much about the conversion. Your mil PIC time is equivalent to Capt time and that's what they care about. I used the same numbers for both and they were fine with that.

As far as time frames, it took a month to get an offer for me, but there are a few guys in my class (started 3 June!) that only interviewed 2 weeks ago. Just be ready if they make you a fast offer.

On the reserve question, it's hard to pin down how long it will be. Consensus seems to be that 737 guys will be a little shorter, but hard to tell since the first one hasn't gotten here yet. This class breakout was 8- 737 and 14- 717 (assignments should be in on Monday?). Seniority is by age and most of us old dudes bid 737.

Good luck! It's a great place to be!

Say I'm sure if I do a search I can find this out but I'm too lazy.
What exactly can a applicant expect to wait before hearing if your lucky to get a response after filing an application and/or resume for an interview.
