Got called on the 30th for an interview with AirTran on the 1st.
For the very little time to prepare, I think I did well. Walked out with a good feeling like everybody else. However I read that many people who felt they did well, didn't get the job.
Anybody knows details on the selection process and what they are looking for?
Waiting to hear in the next 10 days...

:D

AirTran requirements?

I know I cannot answer your question, but I do have a question for you or anyone else who can offer their knowledge on the subject. Is AirTran even interviewing pilots who do not meet their rather new posted requirement of 500 hours Part 121 PIC time? (I know a year or so ago this was not at all required.)

I notice your profile shows you have 4500 total time and that you are captain (I assume on the BE1900?) Do you then meet these requirements?

Does anyone else know just how strict this new requirement is?

Also, can you or anyone else tell me the typical process? My resume was walked in last month. Assuming they over look my lack of 121 PIC time, would I expect to get an application in the mail next, or would I simply get a direct call for an interview first? Either way, what is the typical time frame?

Thanks in advance, and best of luck to you.

AirTran will call you for an interview based on your resume. They usually send you an application once you have been called for an interview. You then need to have the app. completed when you get to the interview. This is how it worked when I interviewed. If you get called for an interview with short notice, they will have you fill out the app. at the interview as far as I know. I know I've read about a couple of people recently who were called with only two days notice. They may be able to tell you more.

I interviewed in Aug 2003, start class April 29th. I have no 121 PIC. I do have around 1300 PIC Jet flying corporate and charter. Don't know how I got past the 121 requirement, but I ain't gonna ask them about it either.:D I have heard rumors from people I know on the inside that they may reconsider this requirement sometime this year. Just keep sending them resumes, and keep your friends on the inside walking those resumes in. My buddy took an updated resume in for me every month. It took about four months before they called me.

Good Luck!

Thanks!

Congratulations on the class date and thanks for the information. Surely this 500 hours 121 PIC thing is more of a preference than a hard written rule, and judging from your claims this must be the case. Although if you have 1,300 PIC legit jet time, along with 2 type ratings, neither of which I have, that doesn't hurt anything. I'm definitely going to keep trying though. Unfortunately in my case not only do I not have 121 PIC time, or PIC jet time, but I'm not currently flying at all. I have not flown since getting the pink slip well over a year ago. So my resume doesn't change no matter how many times I have someone walk it in for me. LOL! But I do have 1,700 SIC 121 jet time as well as 1,000 turbo prop 135 time including around 500 as PIC. All I can do is keep trying!

I haven't updated my profile and now hold about 5000 total time. A lot of that is 121 PIC on the 1900... (almost 3500)
With the short call, I did not get the time to get the app. over the mail. I had someone walk in my resume in mid January and got a call inviting me for the interview at the end of march. As posted before, 2 days before my interview. they have the apps at the hotel where you stay and takes about 30 mins to fill out provided you have all the 10year background data. (Home addresses and employers info). I didn't know about the requirement, but I do know that nobody gets called unless you have someone walk in your stuff.
For now I'm waiting to know and getting to the hard days...

Good luck, let me know if you need more info

PD: I posted the interview stuff on aviationinterviews.com

Thanks

Thank you Islandhoper for the info. You definitely more than meet their requirements. I'm sure your chances are extremely good, so I wish you the very best of luck. I'm trying to keep my chin up while I do the waiting game even though it is tough to do when I know full well I don't meet their posted requirements and that I'm far from being current in any airplane. Keeping my fingers crossed.
