An AirTran flight from Atlanta to New York’s LaGuardia Airport made an emergency landing in Charlotte on Tuesday night after a flight attendant noticed that a passenger had a bottle of water.

The flight, AirTran Flight 372 with 137 passengers and 5 crew members left the gate at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport at 5:53 p.m., but due to the heavy thundershowers in Metro Atlanta, the plane had to sit on the tarmac in Atlanta until the weather cleared.

The flight departed Atlanta at 7:39 p.m.

Shortly after take-off, when the flight attendants made their cabin check, one of them noticed a passenger pulling out a bottle of water. The flight attendant immediately notified the captain.

Based on new federal regulations after the recent uncovered terror plot, the plane made an emergency landing at Charlotte’s Douglas International Airport.

The flight was met in Charlotte by authorities and TSA officials. Everyone was escorted off of the airplane; the passenger with the water was interviewed by police. Everyone else was re-screened.

The plane was given the okay to continue on to New York City after 10 p.m. Tuesday. The water-bearing passenger was allowed to continue along with the other passengers on the flight.

Samuel L. Jackson was interviewed about the situation today, He said...

...I've had it with these mother jumping water bottles on this mother jumping plane!

This is getting, (getting) I mean rediculous!!
What about all the water that leaks through the window in the cockpit is that secure water, or should I be taking it to the TSA to screen it before I go fly? Please tell me what you think?

Who would have ever thought an airliner would make an emergency landing on account of a bottle of water? I hate to question the captain's judgement but why not just confiscate the bottle of water? Once it's on the plane it's on the plane. I guess it could have been operating on a timer...Are we all taking crazy pills?

Unbelievable. Yet believable regarding the company of discussion.

What does that mean? Remember they put one in the everglades one time. Not knowing what was in the bottle, and under the current situation, I think the crew did the right thing. I think the passengers should beat the hell out of the passenger for not following the rules.

True...you know the idiot pax knew better, but...why not just unscrew the bottle and smell it? If it smells like some type of chemical then divert, if it smells like water, why not continue?

Had this happen the other day. Told the F/A to make the pax drink it and go about your business.
