Airtran called Friday and totally caught me off guard! Here I am,
6 months out of work, spending my days at the pool, thinking about selling cars for a living, on my way to dinner with my wife and kids. The phone rings, and Airtran offers me an interview for
next week. I was so shocked, I remember the nice lady on the phone saying they would send me a package. I said thanks and have a good weekend.

OK, if there is anyone that can offer the latest "poop" on the interview process and questions, and how they prepared or any other useful information, I sure could use it Today!!!

Thanks to all in advance!!

Congrats dude!

You military types deserve it; if ever anyone earns the right to get an interview it’s you guys.

Stay safe and good luck on the interview

Congrats, If you are really serious about being at AirTran I would strongly recommend you get the Sim prep at Air Inc. It may suck to pay the cash but you will need the time to get used to the PC based Sim. I would STRONGLY suggest it, unless you perfer selling cars. Good luck

Guy,

Didn't Airtran just come out with some new hiring mins? Not trying to start something, but from your profile it doesn'nt look like you have 500PIC in 121 ops. I could be wrong, might have been smelling too much glue that day. Good luck......

It actually says 500 hrs 121 PIC or military equivalent.

Not sure how they determine the military equivalent.

Huh?

>>>You military types deserve it; if ever anyone earns the right to get an interview it’s you guys.<<<

I am happy for someone who is out of work to get a chance at a good job... But how is he more deserving than a furloughed civilian pilot? Or ANY civilian pilot? You know, the ones who have thousands of hours doing what AirTran does every day, not time in a military airplane that has almost no relevance to the reality of 121 ops?

Not to start anything, not flamebait, but how is someone with 3000hrs of military flying more deserving of an interview than someone with 3000hrs of 121 time? (as in, I know people with that kind of time who've not been offered an interview, myself not included)

I.P,

don't get your panties in a bunch....... ;) Just look at his vast amount of single engine piston time and experience he has. Sh!t like this used to get to me too...... never understood how people thought a military fighter pilot was more deserving of a mainline job then...... oh lets say an Airbus Captain working for Ryan, or USA 3000, Emery, Kitty Hawk, ATI, Champion, etc....? Not that you military folk don't know what your doin, just never understood how someone could say somthing like that. All luck of the draw....... good luck to you at your interview.......

Let's not get into this. Both parties are deemed suitable for 121 work, they've done their time in their respective communities-- so let not there be a distinction as to who is more deserving, we're all in this together... At jetBlue, there is a good mixture of pilots from both the military and civilian sectors, it's refreshing to have the right blend with no pre-conceived notion of a Marine/Navy/AF/Saab 340 or air frieght hiring advantage or stigma.

I agree with FLB717....If you have an interview coming up, get the SIM prep. Alot of pilots have not gotten hired because they busted the SIM. Its very important...TRUST US! FLB717 and myself know what the company is looking for! Be relaxed in the interview and get the SIM prep!!

My underwear is no longer in a bunch... Let's just say I didn't consider the source... Never read the profile of the person who posted it and just made some assumptions. :)

Anyhoo... Said it before and I'll say it again, I am happy he has an interview. Make the best of it, and if it's what you want and you get an offer, congrats to you.

Anyone who’s willing to go out a fight for this country earns a special place in my book, just the other day I bought lunch for three guys crewing a US Army helo just to say thanks even though I never saw these guys before and in all likelihood may never see them again.

I am sorry you feel that the way I look upon those who serve, is wrong but that’s what makes this country so great we can agree to disagree.

Just got home

I want to thank all of you who stuck to the topic, and actually had
some helpful advice. I have spent the last few days in a whirlwind. I took both the interview prep and the sim prep. I think anyone who does not take the time to do the sim prep would be making a foolish mistake.

I did well at the sim prep, but the sim check was tough.

Here is some background for you guys: I GOT LUCKY!!!!

I didnt have any recommendations from someone in the company.
I did attend the Dallas Air inc. conference and submit my application. (That makes the Air Fee worth itself in Gold).
I have about 1,600 hours of Instructor time (All PIC) in the T-1.
Practically all my time is Jet, ME, Military time.

Airtran will call the extra lucky ones in about two weeks.

Also thanks for the positive comments about military service. I appreciate your sentiments.

Phungus, you need to get a grip.

The not-so-veiled accusation that I am not a True American because I don't believe military pilots are more deserving of airline interviews is silly and unnecessary.

I am proud of our men and women in the service, but I stand by my original point. The simple fact that they were in the service doesn't make them uniquely qualified to fly airliners... They do a different kind of flying, and an F-15 driver or an Apache pilot are certainly quite skilled, but they aren't more deserving of an interview at the expense of a civilian pilot with equal time flying other airliners.

If you don't get the distinction, then yes, I guess we can all agree to disagree.

T-1 Guy, congratulations on the interview and good luck with the results! I have a question for you or maybe just asking your opinion. I know the air fairs don't hurt but do you think it gave you a better chance or is it hard to determine if it was a factor or not. With the upcoming job fair in Atl I have been weighing positives and negatives of going. Do you really get a chance to "sell" yourself or just place a resume on the table?

Thanks

T1 Guy,

Congrats. I hope you get the call to join us here. I just celebrated my second anniversary here. I still love my job.

Best of Luck.

Aye yi yi. The military vs. civilian junk is so old. Give it a rest folks.

Some people can do the job, and some can't...regardless of background. If you're lucky enough to get called it's on the individual to land the job. It's that simple. Can you sell yourself or not? I'm strictly civilian and I have never been turned down for a job. Is that because I'm so friggin' great and I have an incredible background - or that I had the requirements and took the time to prepare myself?

Anyway. Congrats man.

Man you guys need to give Phungus a break, I know this kid he’s a nice guy and all around easygoing chap. It seems to me that it was I.P. Freley that has is panties in a wad all Phungus did was tell the dude who started this thread he was happy and expressed an opinion.

I. P. You’re the one who needs to get a grip I don’t see any not-so-veiled accusation that you are not a true American all he said was that he was sorry for the way you felt about how he looked upon the situation.

You airline types never cease to amaze me, the sense of entitlement you have is colossal.

The Air inc Conference

The only contact that I had had with Airtran was the Air inc. conference in Dallas. I believe that this was the only reason that my resume was considered. From there it was my resume that got me in the door.

Thanks again for all the help...

Fingers and Toes are crossed...
