I am sure Airtran would love this....

We will not codeshare or do anything with a airline that does not have all 1 class seating. Ain't going to happen. How would you decide who got First Class?

Correct me if I am wrong but ATA had all 1 class seating correct (I have never been on them..I am assuming this)

Wrong Red Dog. ATA was dual class (business and coach) when they codeshared with us. When you went on southwest.com or called to book a flight if one or all of the legs was on ATA, then they offered the ability to upgrade to business. Kind of like our Business Select now but it was wide two by two seating in the front of the airplane.

This story really has no legs. I am sure an analyst asked the question whether AirTran would look at a codeshare with say Southwest, and AirTran management answered truthfully. Of course they would like to codeshare with SWA, why wouldn't they.

Good to know..there goes that theory of mine..Thanks for the info.

I think the story does indeed have legs. Many times questions from analysts are a plant. Either planted by advocate investors trying to further their desires in regard to the direction a company goes. Or planted so ceos can see what the invest community thinks about such an arrangement. Or it may have just leaked out and they need to be honest that they are trying to sell swa about a code share. In any event it makes sense both airtran and swa need to increase revenues - and this would do the trick. At the cost of more downsizing.

Easy, the passengers wearing shoes get first dibs at 1st class followed by those not using garbage bags as carry on luggage.....

Ahh, what's wrong with the Hefty carry on? They fit better under the bigger seats....especially if you don't have to put shoes under there first!

As far as lots of SWA pilots are concerned (myself included), this codeshare business needs to stop. This Section 6 is going to get contentious I am afraid and it's all because Gary apparently wants to turn our airline into a travel agency.

A merger wood be good for both companys.

A SWA check airman I know said this will more than likely be what happens. Both fly the same jets and have the lowest CASM. My bud said that the folks at the headquarters in Dallas are starting to look into this more and more. He said that the big wigs at SWA really want to break into Atlanta.

Yeah, I rode one of those LUV 717s yesterday. A LUV/ALK is more likely, IMHO.

Are you the sole SWA rep these days?

I do not want to tell you what group with a parade and colorful flag you represent.

Take industry advice from a checkairman from SWA.....that will get you far....if you have not figured it out they have no clue like the rest of us

Check airman or junior FO. Hmmm. The junior FO does get in a lot of Flightinfo time. But, I think I'll stick with the Check Airman who pals around with the chiefs of training, hiring, chief pilots, ect. Please don't let that deminish any of the quality info we all get on this forum.

Let's ask ourselves what SWA gains with AAI. A bunch of 717s and routes that they're already flying with the exception of Atlanta.

What does SWA get with ALK? 116 737s. 1500 737 pilots. Canada. Mexico. Hawaii. Alaska. A fully developed West Coast route structure where, while SWA is present, they're not extremely strong (North of California, that is.).

Oh, and don't forget $1.1 BILLION dollars in cash and cash equivalents. And a strong fuel hedge position, second only to their own.

Didn't Gary Kelly say he wouldn't consider acquiring an operation that wasn't significantly hedged?

Got urself a big 'un there fubi. Never been with a girl of that size. Daddy always told me some guys like um skinny and some guys like um BIG. Nothing to be ashamed of. Even those big Alaska girls need LUVin too.
