What is a good base (cost effective and fun) to try to get into if it's open and I have the seniority to bid it in training. Also, is the plane at the base the same plane I will always be flying, or are they sometimes rotated out for other things than mx? I am sure all of this will be answered in training, but I am just curious. Thanks.

If I had to do it all over again, I would've gone to BHM. Mostly all day runs. Long days though, but I guess from now till about September you'll be praying you have radar when you check in.

Your aircraft could be swaped 2-3 times a night if you get wrong run. If you don't go through CMH you could keep the a/c for a while.

TEB is cheap to live in and it's always fun trying to fly VFR in the northeast to make your deadlines.

That is funny......TEB and cheap dont belong in the same sentence....but it is fun out there.

A/C swaps "usually" occur just for mx reasons. If you have multiple a/c in the same base you could fly a different one every day. If you get outbased somewhere remote, you might have the same a/c for a month or more at a time. Get to know the a/c pretty well, you might find one you like more than others and you could possibly request it most of the time. My favorite Baron was always 9189Q...not the best looking, but it was one of the lightest and it would perform like a champ...had the vg's on it as well which always made you feel a little safer at slower speeds. Good GPS and a good radar...she never let me down. It always seems that the best looking a/c with the most goodies seemed to have the most problems, so less could be more.

As far as a good base...stay away from the NE. BHM seems like a good base, really cheap to live there, and lots of stuff to do...if you are into the outdoors. BHM offers the opportunity to move into the lear as well...at least with the charter dept that is. You wouldn't have to move to get a spot, plus they are 60's. I am sure there are others, but once you get north of the middle of the country it gets too cold for me, so i do not know much about it. Good luck, and bid somwhere you will not mind staying for a year.

Ah good old 89Q. That was a great bird. I got to fly her again after about 1 1/2 years right before I went to Simuflight. It was ugly, it hit every branch on its way down the ugly tree, then the tree fell on it. If I remember correctly its CG was several inches further aft of most other barons. It nearly burned me several times flying the PET Net stuff out of DAL.
The best bases are in the south.

Best Baron in the NE.....the Orange Tail 95BB....and I would have to say the bases in the Northeast are a little better......no big thunderstorms up here and you get to play around in the Ice, snow and cold....gotta love it

Does Airnet still have the aerostars?

I loved flying them. Except for 12s. No aux pump. If you lost the right engine, you had to let the prop windmill for 12 sec, I think, to get the gear up.

Phl 182 was a great run. 8 legs, phl-teb-bdl-bos-bdl-teb-phl-teb-phl. VFR down the Hudson corridor. Lot's of Ice. That was fun flying. It sure beat BUF 222.

Airnet Base Q

How popular is the MSY Van base? Are there people wanting to get in that base? Just wondering.
