...interesting. why then are they hiring street captains?

That's for the charter side for those that already have time in Lear 60 type.
 
The street captains for the 60 are due to none of our pilots having the time required by the insurance company to be able to fulfill that position. They are much higher than the requirements for the 35 because of the fact that they are now people carriers and not frieght. Another factor is that the people who do have the time don't want to fool around with passengers, they came here to fly frieght not people. Trust me, there are plenty of us lower seniority guys who would love to take those positions, but we can't because of the requirements. That is the problem with bringing in new aircraft to a company that has used only certain types for the last 20 years, no one will be qualified to fly them, so we must go find people that can. Another thing to remember is that the street captains are usually contracted people who will have to leave once we have qualified pilots within our own system who are willing to take those spots.
