First of all is Airnet doing any hiring now or in the near future? Also what are the chances of being hired directly into the Caravan? If not hired into the Caravan, how long would it take to bid the Caravan? Finally, how long does it take to upgrade to the Lear (PIC)?

Lets see if i can help out a bit.

From what i understand the outlook is for 30 pilots this year... not much, but at least something. As far as equipment you are flying, well that all depends on the run you can get out of training. The odds are that you will have to take a multi run first and then bid into a van as soon as it comes open... of course that is if no-one above you bids it first. There is no set time to look at while trying to get a certain spot because you must wait for it to come open, and the only way it will come open is for the current pilot flying it to leave it. Now upgrade to Capt. in the lear is another story. Right now it is slow, very slow... and that is of course due to the rest of the airlines slowing down hiring. It looks like about 1 1/2 to 2 years right now to get to the FO spot on the lears, and then probably that same amount of time to the Capt. It is not a fast move anymore. Hope that helps.

I hate to say this but I have to disagree with Strchkr with regards to upgrade time to the AirNet Lear. Unless things pick up really fast and strongly in the industry, I am expecting the upgrade to the Lear to be more in the line of 2 1/2 to 3 years.

As far as flying the Caravan goes, you will be checked out in whatever plane is used on your run. So, if you get a run directly out of initial training that uses a Caravan, you will be checked out in the Caravan. It is basically treated like all the other prop planes that AirNet flies. The equipment you are checked out in is completely based on the needs of the run you get.

I'll agree with B.B. . I've been here a year and don't expect to see a Lear for an estimated 2-3 MORE years. There's virtually nothing coming out on bid sheets for Lear slots and until the industry starts hiring again, I don't expect things to move or people to go any where. If you're in a Lear at Airnet, why would you leave to go somewhere else at this point and be at the bottom of a furlough threatened seniority list?

Like any other run we have, the chances of getting any city you want is a flip of the coin.

How many prop bids per cycle on average come open? How often do you guys do bids?

Bid sheets come out as often as once per week. However, movement is so slow these days that there is no "average" as to how many bids are on the sheet. However, based on the current state of the industry, it has been awhile since the sheet required a second page.

According to what I understood from a conversation I had with Craig a few months ago, none of the current pilots who fly the Lears which have been around for a while (35's) have the LR 60 type, which is a separate type from the other "LR JET" type.

He wants to promote from within, but wants to hire LR 60 pilots with time in type, and that means going to the street. He asked me if I knew of anyone with that type AND experience.

The Lancaster location would probably have both types based there, and he wants pilots who can move easily between the two aircraft.

That's for the charter side for those that already have time in Lear 60 type.

The street captains for the 60 are due to none of our pilots having the time required by the insurance company to be able to fulfill that position. They are much higher than the requirements for the 35 because of the fact that they are now people carriers and not frieght. Another factor is that the people who do have the time don't want to fool around with passengers, they came here to fly frieght not people. Trust me, there are plenty of us lower seniority guys who would love to take those positions, but we can't because of the requirements. That is the problem with bringing in new aircraft to a company that has used only certain types for the last 20 years, no one will be qualified to fly them, so we must go find people that can. Another thing to remember is that the street captains are usually contracted people who will have to leave once we have qualified pilots within our own system who are willing to take those spots.
