Hi everyone,

I have a friend who just got called from airnet. I dont know anything about them and I would like to help him out decide if he should go for it. Any airnet pilots there with some quality of life inputs. Thank you. if you were to choose between airnet and skywest which would you go for?

I flew for Airnet for about 18 mos before going to Eagle. Great experience with a great group of pilots.

I think your friend should consider his long term goals before making a decision. If the airlines are his end goal then go there now. Seniority is everything. Yes, the practical experience gained at Airnet would be beneficial when he goes to training, but it's not essential. Lots of guys get through training with very little experience outside of the training environment. Did I mention seniority is everything at the airlines?

If corporate or charter is the ultimate goal then flying 135 is great on the resume'. At Airnet the pilot will do the bulk of the flight planning with respect to fuel planning, load planning, WX decision making, adapting to unforseen events. You really have to be able to stand on your own two feet to get the job done. That experience would come in handy down the line if he's flying without the support resources available at the airlines.

Living in the Bay Area cold be tough unless he plans to move to his Airnet domicile as the closest Airnet bases are, at least when I left in March, APA (Denver) on the jet an probably MEM in the props. That may have changed in the last few months.

What's the schedule like on the van run in phoenix?
There are two of them, one to FLG and one to HII, 5 days a week. They both leave around 8am. You get a hotel and rental car for the day and fly back to PHX around 5-530pm. Kinda an easy day, but not for time-building.
 
I had heard about PHX and PDX, but didn't know about Seattle. I am Seattle (BFI) based and have only heard them down in the PDX area. When did they start flying out of Seattle?
A few months ago. I beleive there are 2 pilots based there.
 
There are two runs out of BFI. One is Sat-Wed (Wed is standby). The other is Sun-Thur (Sun is standby). If anyone wants more info on the BFI runs, let me know... I've got the scoop.
 
Hey Mugsy, based on your a/c and picture it looks to me like you were at Ameriflight and now at Kenmore. Am I close?
I was at Kenmore, now at AirNet. The pic was a Kenmore plane last winter. I miss the pacific NW.. but hated the cloudy days.
 
Can a potential new hire request the Van or even go as far as requesting the Van at BFI?

If you go to an interview with the 135 mins and tell them you want a van run out of BFI and they hire you that is where you go. If there is no open BFI run at the time you will be put on an 8 on/6 off reserve based out of BFI until a run opens up. When a run at BFI opens up you must take it (you can't decide you want to go to PDX).

Good to hear. Have heard nothing but good things about Airnet recently. Do you happen to know what the Van run at BFI looks like?

What details can you provide about Airnet hiring bonuses? Any idea what the hiring projections are looking like for 2008?

If you have current 135 mins when you get hired you receive a $3000 net bonus once you pass training. If you have less than 135 mins you get $1500. To put the hiring projections in to perspective, we are losing pilots faster than we can hire them. There should be continuos hiring throughout 2008.
 
AirNet wants to expand. The pilot shortage is holding it back. I've told by someone in recruitment that they would like to add 150 pilots in 2008.
 
I flew at AirNet from December 2003 thru July 2005. I left as a Learjet SIC. I'm now working for SkyWest as a CRJ Captain. If you need info on the two companies, PM me. I can give you updated SkyWest info, but my AirNet info is probably very out of date. I stay in touch with old starcheckers, but don't know too much of what is going on over there.

As far as the two companies. I loved AirNet. Best experience I've ever gotten. It will make you a better pilot. It was probably the highlight of my career. However, I've settled down, just got married and am glad I made the SkyWest change. Upgraded in 1 yr 9 months (much lower now) and gross pay was approx $27k first year, $65K second year and on track to make mid $90K as a Captain now. I do work a little extra, but the average pay is not too much lower than that. Second year FO at SkyWest will be making more than Learjet Captains at AirNet. (At least as of when I left AirNet in 2005).

When your friend makes his decision, he needs to base it on QOL and what he is looking for. AirNet sounds like he could get based out west. SkyWest junior domiciles are MKE and ORD for the CRJ. But as an FO, you can get to the west coast pretty quickly. If you get the bro, you will be out west. (SLC is as far East as they go now).

PURVIS!!!!!! What's up dude...you no longer answer my messages...what, did i do somthing to piss you off?

Hiring bonuses again huh...i remember the last time they had those bonuses...that's when i got on back in the old days. Man, barely had 500 hours when i first started there, and just think, 5 and a half years later (and a lot of excellent experience) i get to fly an airbus around the skies all day long...well, with 17 days off a month though. Man those were the days, out there on your own, no-one watching over your shoulder, just as long as you got the work to its destination on time and didn't bend any metal you got left alone. I miss it, i really do. If i could get the QOL and the MONEY i make now flying back at Airnet, i would go back in a heartbeat, without question!! Great group of guys...and gals...and it was nice to fly with most of those people...with exception to ole Purvis above, man he was a pain, always drunk and brining those ho's back to his place...geez, i don't know why he gave it up!:laugh: Ahhh, that just made me think of DSM-APA in those storms, are we really still alive after that?!;) Crazy stuff!

But anyway, Airnet is definately an excellent place to work, i put in 5 1/2 years and loved it...started in the 58 and 310 and moved to the lear in 3 years(post 9/11 and very picky on upgrade locations) and spent a year as PIC in the lear and loved every minute of it...well, maybe not those checkrides, whew, am i glad those are over! All you Starcheckers past and present know what i mean.

I'm looking at applying to Airnet and trying to get the PHX base. Does anybody have any idea on what the schedule is like? What kind of hours? Thanks
 
Anyone know if Airnet plans on putting a baron run back in TUL? I know they still own the run, but Central Air Southwest is covering it.
