Pass the expense on to the consumer???? What?? Can't the employees just subsidize with lower wages and benefits? I'm calling my congressman, CHEAP AIRFARE IS MY RIGHT!!!

It might also be an impetus to AMR to get rid of those beat-to-sh** MD-80s and move to something more fuel efficient. Sooner or later the cost of fuel is going to exceed the benefit of paid-off airplanes, if they're not already there.

It's all about the lease number. Since the fuel price and the cost to maintain per hour are already determined. It's easy to look ahead and have a drop-dead point on the fuel number.
