Airline Union Contracts

Hello,

I have a question regarding union contracts in the airline industry. Is it normal to not have a new contract in place when the old contract runs out? Also, is it normal to not have a new contract for 1 year or more when an old contract runs out?

I haven't had that much experience working in a unionized flying job, so any input is appreciated.

Not unusual at all. It's almost always in management's interest to drag out negotiations as long as possible.

In a pilot's world all contracts are renewed with an annual 25% increase in pay and vacation and benifits. No negociations it just happens rubberstamped from management. But since most of us work for public companies the management seems to feel that dragging negociations on for eternity and pushing for a strike results in the perception that they are looking out for the shareholders value. If they can get the workforce to work after a contract is expired then that is a real feather in their cap, they just got one more year out of you before you retire. Enjoy it, that is the real world.
