On another thread, airline pilot perks were mentioned. I was so amused that I thought I'd start it here.

Please post your thoughts on pilot perks.

I'll start on a sarcastic note, but don't let that sway you. Let's hear about those perks, real, imagined, rumored, and non-existant.

My favorite airline pilot perk is the ability to spend every Christmas in an exotic local. I mean, think about it, does your accountant get to stay in a Hampton Inn in Philidelphia on his companies nickel?

My next favorite perk is the free airplane coffee. Just thinking about it makes me wish I had a cup, not.

Come on lets hear about those perks.

One more, those peanut pilot pellet perks are such a favor to us. I mean just think, management actually allows us to eat their peanuts, NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!

You get to travel the world right?

I havn't been out of Northern Canada in over a year.

Helping unload M-16 ammo and 12 guage shells at Kuwait. Having a Mai Tai at Dukes with the moon rising over Diamondhead. FA's that you are glad you arn't married too.
Doing preflights with a flak jacket.12 hour layovers.

The travel is pretty good. In the past 2 years I have been to meet girls in 22 different countries on my days off. I figured up how much it would have cost me if i wasnt able to jump seat. It was well over $500,000. That is a pretty cool Perk..

The peanut and raisin casserole I used to eat for dinner as commuting freight trash.

On the positive side, the wonderful WN, DAL and Corpex crews that always gave me a free ride home to see my family and to work to see my Caravan. I remember once the J31 Captain at Corpex when confronted with two of us dogs looking for a ride to TRI even though policy was only one per flight, says: "He!! yeah, I'll fill the airplane with jumpseaters! You guys make yourself at home."

One word: jumpseating
yeah yeah we can't ride up fron anymore.. (yet??) and planes are pretty full these days.. but come on.. fly for free most anywhere in the world?? :D <thankful>

Im with d328pilot on this one. In the past 12 months I have been to 12 different countries. Asian, Eastern European, Scandinavian, and Latin girls. Oh yes, it has been one hell of a year.:D

Geez, now you are starting to sound like Avbug and airplanes. If my wife saw your thread she would never let me out of the house. You for sure belong to the whole world...hope those Latin girls don't have your phone number, they will chase you. Especially the Colombianas.

It's all fun and games, till you're showing the doctor that big genital wart on your bag.

After 3 years with Mesaba I'm still trying to find out the scoop on airline pilot perks. I don't think they really exist.

Reserve and 10 days off, base pay. Having fun!

I thought you were only joking when you said that on the other thread. I used to think that jumpseating and non-revving were perks, but not anymore. I worked for Boeing for a spell and they paid for my tickets to travel. I got to choose the airline so I could build up frequent flyer points. Then I used those to buy two tickets to Hawaii on my vacation. Heck of a lot better than non-revving. The corporate guys do much better in that respect than we do.

I would argue that there are still some good perks. Heavily discounted lift tickets at some major ski resorts; discounted hotel rooms; not having to work in an office all day; for those that live in Pittsburgh, being able to leave on a regular basis :D

Perks? How about those snazzy hats I know y'all love so much?

What about those tiny little complimentary bottles of shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, and lotion you can collect? (WARNING: don't get the conditioner and mouthwash mixed up. I've heard it can happen...)

I actually lucked out again this year: Christmas Eve and Christmas will be at home. I will therefore have been present for both my sons' first Christmases. (Not bad for a guy with five-years seniority!)

On the other hand, I'll be in VPS for New Year's...

Time and a half on holidays and saturdays and double time on sundays, that airline perk is enough to make me want to jump ship...but then I'd have to work holidays, saturdays and sundays.

I know this is not only a pilot perk but rather an airline employee perk but this morning I'm planning two trips for this Winter. One ski trip to Tahoe and a guys trip down to the Carribean. I'll use the pilot perk to catch a free ride down and the generic airline perk to book hotels at a reduced rate. My attorney friend along with my political aid friend will be paying full fare and bitching about my 17 day off life the whole week. I haven't in the past taken advantage of these small perks enough and I think that is going to change.
