Wow!! Set your sights high!!

Well, he or she is a brand new pilot with dreams of flying people around with flight attendants and such...

Give it some time, they'll get on with a regional, do some time, then FedEx and UPS will look a LOT better. ;)

Incidentally, that's a pretty tough choice and you really need to analyze what you want out of your career, commuting or not, what cities you might like to live in, and career earning expectations.

Southwest is pretty stable and has a great employee/employer relationship.

AirTran is going to retire a LOT of people soon, upgrade times could drop into the 2 - 3 year range, starting pay and 2nd year pay is one of the best of the LCC's and their first 5 year pay rates are higher than any of the other LCC's as well.

jetBlue is going to have relatively quick upgrades as well, but their long-term survivability is being questioned by some. I think they have a fantastic product, questionably better than any other LCC, but will that be enough to keep them competitive?

You're also WAY ahead of the ballgame here, if you're flying 172's you're probably not going to be competitive for a LONG time to come, 3-5 years AT LEAST, and the whole ball of wax could change by then...

Good luck!

Beat me to it. After a while, with kids and a mortgage, it's all about the moolah.

Southwest is by far the best friggin' airline job in whole wide world.

Of course, I am biased.

Where did you get your info?

The latest senority list shows about one retirement a month for the next 3 years.

Upgrade is already running 2-3 years.

Best Pilot do you work at da tranny? Either way your posts are pretty funny. I would love to work at da tranny. In fact it's my number one choice. Does it help to have dark colored skin to get a job at Airtran?

I will bet that that list will change when you get ready to apply. Good luck!

If I we're a new pilot starting out,I would look at NetJets or flying for the miltary. The airline industry is going through a major transformation right now and it's hard to predict who will be the winners or losers when its all said and done.
