Ok, folks, here's the deal. Our company is rolling out Blackberry's, which is not a bad thing, IMO, however we're all about simplicity and carrying around an palm-pilot or window's machine to run Ultra-Nav is not what we're interested in. (we've giving up our palm-powered cell phones). As it's another machine to maintain, etc...
So, I proposed to both Ultra-Nav and CAVU, a collabortive effort to port either of their apps to the Blackberry. My folks would to the programming and roll-out, in return for the source code to give us a jump start. They didn't bite. Ultra-Nav is just too busy rolling out additional aircraft types, and they perfer to only support a single OS, which is fine.
CAVU didn't think there are enough Blackberry's to support the effort. Which is also a good reason.
Fine, we're going to do it anyway. My programmers have looked at the palm-powered software as well as Ultra-Nav running under WinXP, and they feel this is a simple matter, and we could actually have a better product.
We're not really interested in getting into this business, and we're doing this only to make our life easier. We're going to roll out a version for the Lear 60 since that is the plane we operate.
I initially thought that the Flex guys might be interested since they are the largest 60 operator out there. But I don't know if they use Blackberry devices. And they might take care of Perf stuff from dispatch, etc...
If any of you Flex folks are here, chime in or send me a PM.
thanks.
