What is the typical operating costs for a light twin engine aircraft? Something along the lines of a Piper Aztec / Seminole or Cessna 310? Maybe even a Beech Duchess or Baron. How much money would have to be put away per hour to cover maintenance costs?

I realize every plane will be different. I'm just curious what one could expect to pay, in a general sense. Also, is there another twin out there that has significantly lower operating costs than another?

Good rule of thumb for piston powered airplanes reguarding operational costs is take the fuel burn per hour, figure out what that cost is and multiply it by 3.

times 3 - previous post good rule of thumb- actual varies alot.
I have owned old- low time 310 for 8 yrs. best annual inspection < $1900, worst about $20,000(including new props to get rid of AD), insurance was about $2500, now about $4000(no claims ever or violations). Told to expect at least $4500 at renewal( insurance companies making up stock market losses on back of customers), 22-23 gph total and then purchase price and tie down(TD cheap), then add stuff like $350 master relay, $470 for recon oil cooler ($1100 new) blah blah blah. Don't let anyone else fly it so no engine problems (much) yet. blah blah.

I must be insane.

Airplane for sale- maybe

nah- insanity is fun.
