CLEVELAND (AP) -- A commuter plane carrying 74 people ran off the end of a runway after landing at the Cleveland airport Sunday, an airline spokeswoman said. No injuries were reported.

The flight, traveling from Atlanta to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, landed around 3 p.m., said Thonnia Lee, a spokeswoman for Delta Air Lines Inc.

The flight was operated by Shuttle America, a Delta connection carrier, she said. Lee said she did not know what caused the plane to leave the runway or how far it went off.

Can you say Delta flight.....

The news says "Delta Flight" and since the general public can't distinguish between the two, the end result is the same as if the mainline pilots were at fault.

Your article even states it was a commuter aircraft not operated by Delta.

O.k guys, back off a little, I flew for a Delta Connection carrier for four years, I know the difference.

I posted the article in the majors board because some Delta guys come here and don't cruise the regionals board.

Tell you what, take a look at this picture, see if it doesn't have anything to do with Delta:

So what happened? I only have heard the WX was not the best at the time but from what I remember the runways are quite long there so why the overrun?

Excellent Post

Looks like Delta, Smells like Delta but "it aint no Delta", at least to pilots. Average Joe does not distinguish the difference even though the article states the fact. What can you do?

2300tt ??

2300tt ??

I am ex-military and legacy. Worked as safety rep for ALPA. Total time has rarely something to do with incidents/accidents. In fact numbers prove the opposite, due to a number of other factors (over-confidence or not-happening to me syndrome, to name two).

I dont' care who you are!! Total time does have something to do with it!!! 2300 itsn't that much time!!!

I dont' care!! Total time that low does have something to do with it!!! 2300 itsn't that much time!!!

So you're implying that everyone with 2300 or less will run off a runway ? Again, statistics prove the opposite. And AGAIN, not defending hiring low-time pilots, just stating facts.

Did TT have anything to do with the NWA DC-9 that ran off the runway a few weeks ago?

All depends on the quality of the 2300 hrs!!!!! You can get 2300hrs flying pattern work with a student!! Is that good time???? Probably not for flying into snow on a short runway!!!!

It all depends on the time!!! But at 2000hrs you just start learning and seeing things!!!

All I am saying is that Total time is more important then he is saying!!! It means something, and experience is invaluable!!! How do you get experience? From freakin flying!!! I know that I wouldn't want to be a passenger knowing my captain only had 2000hrs and FO had 250hrs....

And we are seeing this more and more at the regionals!!!

I've been flying for the airlines for about 9 years now and just about every year a plane goes off the runway in CLE. I remember being based there in the late 90's and Continental, Delta, and American all had MD-80's off the end in 1 winter. It's not all about the experience level of the pilot.

Do you have any experience working in safety ?

And please, lose the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to take a stab at what happened. The E170/190 is sometimes very difficult to get into reverse. Occasionally, you have to push the thrust levers back up a little before trying to get the triggers over the gate. We'll see, but I would bet that the reverse issue coupled with a slick runway did them in. It's great that no one was injured.

Huck:
The only thing showing in your picture is a DL livery color and the word "connection" on the side of the a/c!

Been in aviation 11 years!! Over 8,000hrs of safe flying!!! So yea, I have experience working in safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know your role!!!

So you're implying that everyone with 2300 or less will run off a runway ? Again, statistics prove the opposite.

Stats also prove that pilots with many speeding tickets and ones with prior DUI's have a less likely chance of being in a plane accident!!! whats ur point!!!

All I am saying is you can't replace experience!!! Was the accident from being low time??? We don't know??? Anyone of us can pass a checkride, and have a safe flying day 98% of the time!! But there is always that day that experience has helped many people make it thru a situation that would have killed someone without it!!!

Don't know anything about the 170 crash!!! Lucky nobody was hurt!!

But for you to be in 'Safety' and say experience doesn't matter is one big crock of sh$t!!!!

And here, have some more of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Know your role!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And here, have some more of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny stuff WSurf.

I vote for experience also. More flight time equals more decision making skills based on experience. You can't argue that fact.....and I wouldn't use "APLA experience" as a biblical source of reference.

All that in an airplane that can't go over 190 in a descent (with a tailwind), or above 10,000!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know your role!!!

Like when not to talk!
