Just got back from the Air Inc. Job Fair in D.C.
Not many surprises. Most of the airlines plans for the future parallel the info on this site and their websites. Out of an estimated 1000 people, I would say half the attendees were furloughed major guys trying for a limited number of slots at Alaska and FedEx. The other half were hitting the big regionals that attended, ACA, ASA, Comair.

Trying to justify it wasn't a waste of my time/money, Comair told me I meet the mins but need 121/135 and more time to be competitive, I know I have low time/exp, but I had hoped attending this job fair would get me more than career advice I already know!

ACA said I needed the 1500 TT, ASA looked the most promising, (didn't tell me no!). If I get a call from them, it will have been worth it!

Think my favorite was TAB express- We're hiring for King Air slots-but our insurance mandates 3500+ TT, PIC turbine, etc. haha!

AIR INC

Hey,

Thanks for the info about Air Inc. DCA.

I went last year and decided not to waste any money on them this year.

I think Air Inc. is profiting from our desperation and I'm getting sick of it.

Last year Kit blew all kinds of sunshine up our rear-ends about how things are not as bad as they seem, you can still position yourself ... blah blah blah.

Let's face it, if you got the numbers and know the right people, you're going to get a job. If you don't, forget it.

Best of luck with the job search ...

Strange

We were at Air Inc to hire pilots for USA Jet, and we announced this, still only about 6 quailifed people came by to see us. Enter level position is a DA-20 F/O starting pay first day of ground school is 33K per year. Our mins are 1200TT and 750 MEL, plus a burning desire to live in Detroit within 5 miles of YIP, on a pager with a 20 minute call out for trips of a 3 hours or 3 weeks duration. We never had a line at our booth.

Hey Caddy,

Out of curiousity, was FedEx there? There was some excitment on this board when AirInc announced that FedEx was going to attend the fair. This was around the late summer time frame, before things slowed down there. I'm curious if they still attended, considering they've shut down their Internet application link.

I'll bet they did, because I bet old Kit pays them to be there.

Pilotyip, did Kit pay USA jet?

Fedex

FedEx's John Ryder spoke just before me and he said they would be hiring in the future, possibily up to 100 next year.

(emphasis added)

Isn't that the truth?!? Kit's been getting rich off pilots' desperation for years. First, it's the "pilot shortage." We, who want the career, or try to better ourselves or just need work, know what a sophistry that is. Kit, as FAPA and in his new Air, Inc. incarnation has been blowing the same kind of sunshine up our sixes for fifteen years!

We had someone on the message side of the board term Kit's hiring figures as Enron-style accounting. So true!

Best of luck to everyone in their job search. Don't expect much help from Kit, though.

Jobs

that does match the real world, many pilots have been hired right off the floor at those shows, many many more have gotten interviews from the meeting at the show. There are jobs at these shows, but not everyone gets hired. I also run into many pilots who are more lifestyle orientated, than advancing their careers.

hey pilotyip i've got a buddy of mine that is looking for a job with your mins. PM me if you guys are still hiring. He will move for the job.

Geez, no takers? That's hard to believe.

6 figures in 6 years

Yea, it is only a job flying jets that puts you in 6 figures in 6 years, I can understand how some airline pilots would look down on this
