I'm sure Oprah, Gloria Allred and Rosie O'Donnell are all shooting special episodes as we speak. (sponsored by Weight Watchers)

maybe some US carriers can learn from this...probably not. *sigh* if only everyone could hire like SAS, KLM, Air France, and Skywest :smash:

For a long time I've thought of overweight flight crew as a legit. safety issue. Honestly, more so with cabin crew, but I can apply that to cockpit crew, as well. Who knows, maybe adrenaline can turn even the most old or overweight crew member in to a passenger slinging ninja.

about freakin time!!!! Yet another reason to go fly overseas....lol....I do agree with the judge as well on the safety issue. Some of the aisle donkeys at my airline would be all but useless in a real emergency. The fa mantra these days seems to be 'we are here for safety not service' so please explain to me how an arthritic 75 year old or a 300 pound 45 year old can efficiently evacuate a plane of several hundred people. Not gonna happen.

Let's find a way to legitimately hire only fit crewmembers.
(deleted personal very embarassing experience of passing British Airways F/As, with mine in tow)
If we're going to market a product, we need a real selling point....and what we have now ain't it!

I like the picture on the lower right hand corner of the article with the plane taxing by and the man in camo on the ramp holding a fully automatic gun by the trigger like something is getting ready to happen. He looks pissed too! Now thats advertising.

All 3 of the above ought to be banished themselves. Allowing oneself to put on weight like they have is both unhealthy and grossly negligent.

Obesity (yes, the above ladies are "obsese") cost our nation billions in unrequired healthcare expenditures as well as lost productivity. Plus, have you noticed how nasty obese flight attendants can be? Not good for the brand.

About time!

I am in Europe now, and was DHDing on European carriers and noticed the difference between US pilots and fa's, and foreign pilots and fa's (we're FAT, they're not) it's embarrassing! I love going into asia and seeing those lovely petite Cathay, Singapore and Malayasian fa's!!!

You should marry one of them and bring her back to the States. Do you know what would happen? She would get fat here. Then, when you tell her she is fat and ask her what happened, she would divorce you and take half. Welcome to America!

Bye Bye--General Lee

All these American fat FA's and guy FA's are great marriage protection.

Tell me why television, Vegas hotels, or the Dallas Cheerleaders don't have a bunch of fat cows? It's because it is not illegal to fire or not hire the wrong person for a themed business. And the airlines do have themes. US airline recruiters are full of crap and dead wrong about their policies.

Airline hiring for FA's and pilots are a joke. A fat pilot walks in and the interview should end with thanks will give you a call.

Uhh...hate to break it to you, but America is the land of excess in virtualy every area.....thats what makes our nation great. If you don't like the freedom to slip out of your 5000 SF McMansion to McDonalds at 0300 to suck down a few Big Macs with Value sized Fries and a 96oz diet coke you are living in the wrong place.

Forgot how much i miss living in the northwest *sniff* that place is the best. :smash:

My dad still tells me that if it weren't for KLM's FA's (or one in particular) I wouldn't be here today. I'm not sure what he means by that... or maybe I just don't want to know.

Spoiler alert... it means that when he returned from a KLM flight he painted a mental image of one of them fine Dutch FAs. He then proceeded to give your mother a good rogering all while revisiting that mental image he had so meticulously preserved.

PS
now you know why your middle name is Johann as well.

Give me a break!!!!!

Give me a break! A 50 year long career as an FA!

Recruited as a flight attendant from the Patricia Stevens Modeling Agency in June 1957, before Continental had jet-powered aircraft in its fleet, Heape now serves as an International Service Manager on board the aircraft. In her illustrious 50-year career with the airline, she has flown over 26 million miles on 27 different aircraft types to nearly all of Continental's more than 100 destinations worldwide. Heape has been based in Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Honolulu and Newark, and has several "firsts" under her belt. She worked the inaugural flight of the Viscount aircraft in 1958, Continental's first military air charter in 1964, and the first Boeing 747 flight to Honolulu in 1970.
"Most of us will never experience a lifetime of commitment to just one company," said Sam Risoli, Continental's vice president of inflight and Heape's boss of 11 years. "Norma exemplifies the spirit, class and professionalism of the International Service Manager position, and we are extremely honored to recognize her dedication to Continental Airlines."
Continental will honor Heape's 50 years of service in a brief ceremony on June 13 prior to her departing on flight CO99 from Newark Liberty to Hong Kong. Risoli will present Heape with a specially designed necklace in recognition of her lifelong dedication to the airline.
With the most seniority among nearly 9,000 flight attendants at Continental, Heape sets a great example for her peers. Not once in her career has she missed a scheduled trip due to calling in sick. Hundreds of new flight attendants are starting their careers with Continental this year, and the airline is continuously interviewing applicants who submit their information on continental.com.
Continental Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Continental, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,100 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 144 domestic and 138 international destinations. More than 400 additional points are served via SkyTeam alliance airlines. With more than 44,000 employees, Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and together with Continental Express, carries approximately 67 million passengers per year. Continental consistently earns awards and critical acclaim for both its operation and its corporate culture.
In 2006, Continental Airlines won its sixth J.D. Power and Associates award since 1996. The carrier received the highest rank in customer satisfaction among network carriers in North America in the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Airline Satisfaction Index Survey(SM). For the fourth consecutive year, FORTUNE magazine named Continental the No. 1 Most Admired Global Airline on its 2007 list of Most Admired Global Companies. Continental was also named the No. 1 airline on the publication's 2007 America's Most Admired airline industry list. Additionally, Continental again won major awards at the OAG Airline of the Year Awards including "Best Airline Based in North America" for the fourth year in a row, and "Best Executive/Business Class" for the fifth consecutive year. I was once telling the CLE chief pilot that they should have a fitness center at the airport or a running track nearby with showers and stuff, it would be good and motivating for pilots that have like 4 hours between flights.. Imagine how cool that would be if every airport had a state of the art gym with a pool/shower/jacuzzi? Not going to happen...
